• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Many of u know my doubt in God existing started with a fear of no heaven. I can either not look up near death experiences for the hope I may not doubt in heaven or I can continue to look into that stuff and possibly go to hell for not just trusting either way I seem to get no solace. What do I do? Not worrying about it is impossible because who just says ok heaven might not exist and not worry about it.

If you stop looking them up and stay away from it long enough, the discomfort will go away. If you ignore thoughts and doubts, as hard as it is, they lose their bite and your mind forgets. That's how my doubts or intrusive thoughts have gone away. It's hard, but if you decide to stop thinking about it, that shows you trust Him, and it makes it better. It is hard, but if you just pray for the self discipline to help you to do that I think you'll be surprised at what you find happens.

"If life exists, then God exists. If God exists, then heaven exists."

You could try some quick and easy to remember references that you can bring to mind when the doubts come.

A few more:

"If there is evil, then there is good. If God is good, then evil will be defeated in time."

"The universe did not create itself, something does not come from nothing."

"Jesus died for me, therefore I can trust Him."

C.S. Lewis said this:

“Faith is the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted in spite of your changing moods”

Try to remember what you have once accepted to be true and trust in that no matter what OCD says.

Now, about all of the times I've told you to "stop worrying."

I didn't mean to make it seem like I was just telling you to "Stop it!" I understand that this isn't something that has a switch you can just flick and turn off when you get tired of it. I understand that this is extremely difficult to deal with.

However, not dwelling on your fears and essentially refusing to engage in thought processes about your fears is something that is extremely helpful, and perhaps even essential, to getting better from your OCD.

This is an art, an art that is very difficult to master. You basically are trying to figure out how your mind thinks so that you can know when to let yourself calm down and not think so intensely about something.

I hope I didn't come across as annoyed, pushy, unsympathetic, or misunderstanding in my earlier posts. And I'm sorry if I did. I certainly don't want to come across as some grumpy know-it-all type.

No no one here has been rude to me. Maybe I should explain a little better. I can honestly see myself doubting heaven and God the rest of my life because I need proof so bad. This will probably land me in hell. How do I sit by so to speak and not focus on it, then I am never going to get the proof I need that heaven is there and I am so scared it isn't I want to know it is by looking up everything I can.

I also get this really excited feeling when thinking about becoming another religion. Ugh!

Feelings are erratic, abstract, and unpredictable. Plus, you've already shown that you have very strong feeling of desire to just be a Christian without having to worry about doubts and stuff. If your feelings could determine your belief system, which they can't, then you would probably be more towards Christianity than the other religions you are concerned about.
