  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

on tuesday and thursdays i watch my 12 yr old niece and 8 yr old nephew after school for my sister in law. as a child care provider for 17 yrs i love it but recently my niece has used language i would never allow and would have serious consequences. and i know her mother and father would not allow it. i also have an 11 8 5 and 3 yr old twins at home and the younger ones will pick up on everything!!! How should i handle this situation while she is in my care to ensure my children will also understand we do not use such language..

Take her aside, explain the rules and the consequences and then follow through. If they are in your care, take care of them.

"In my house, I don't allow uneducated speech. If you can't find a better word than foul language, you will need to remain silent. If you continue in using inappropriate language here, you can not be in the company of the group." Then if it persists, have her sit by herself.

And if she refuses to go by the rules tell her mom and dad since they don't allow it. If they say use soap to wash out her mouth, good. Soap tastes nasty and will get the point across. But that's just me. We only did it once with our kids, the first two were VERY strong willed. Number three is more compliant.
