Which items can be missing and still be a good movie?

I would say a movie could still be good, unless it has a poor script and poor acting. Thinking of Blair Witch Project. Looking back it was kind of a stinker all the way around, but still held folks attention even with a lack of most qualities.

interesting question! for me, the things that are really key to a movie are the script, plot, and the acting. if the story keeps me interested and the acting makes it believable, then that's most important. it's nice to have awesome special effects and amazing scenery, but it's not essential. but this all depends on the types of movies that you watch!!

I think for me it would have to be Story. I have seen movies with bad actors and scripting but the story kept it going and made it a good movie, for example Star Wars.

Interesting story line, emotional depth, diverse characters, good acting and directing, relevant scenery, some humor, the ablity to sweep me into the story and a cliff hanger.

I think the biggest, most common thing that helps a movie, is the music.
Nothing moves emotions better than music. Wether its a hit song, or just a sound effect from an instrument, music is in just about every scene you have ever watched.

For me, the basic elements of a quality movie are good writing, acting, and direction. Music is important too, though the lack of it can play just as major a part in certain scenes.

Another big thing is having the right actor, for the job. I don't care how well they can act, if they don't look the part, they're out.

But by far the biggest thing to make a quality movie, is MONEY!
