What should one expect when visiting a MJ congrgation for the first time?

Lots of shouting, dancing and running around all over the place like a good ol' fashion Tent Revival (kidding)

Seriously, it all depends on the group and where you go. Some people do liturgical practices/prayers from a Jewish perspective and have a reading from the Torah - as well as long worship and intercession for Israel. Others may differ.

Thanks for the info! What's the typical length (i realize it may differ depending on the congregation). When looking online I saw anywhere from 45 mins to 4 hours.
There's no standard length to it anymore than there's a standard length in Black Pentecostal churches - some lasting for 2 hours (And on other days, only an hour) whereas others last for 4 ...including the time of greeting before service and the fellowship meal afterwards and family gatherings/community connection after the service.

In our town, 10 AM start time... singing (traditional and contemporary) and congregational dancing (Hebraic style) first, then liturgy/siddur, prayer, followed by a shared meal, and Birkat haMazon. Then, depending on the length of the Torah portion, and open discussion of the text, (which is the way it was set up every week), it could be an all day fellowship. In the evening, Havdalah, a chapter study from any book from Joshua to Revelation. There's something going on just about every day. Just be prepared to free up your Sabbath!

My area, very quiet introspective time upon arrival, 2-hour liturgical prayer service, a short meet 'n' greet break, an interactive teaching session (usually just over an hour) and then a shared meal - total time about 4.5 hours. The liturgy is done both in Hebrew and English.
One thing I find very refreshing is the view that worship brings on praise, not the reverse. (Mainstream churches & churchy MJ services work on the reverse idea that a lot of loud praise and even louder music brings on a sense of quiet worship - never worked for me).

Hey guys. As the title says, I am going to check out an MJ 'Shabbat' (i think it's called) in the next few weeks. Just curious what I should expect and if there is anything I should know.

Thanks!

*sorry about the spelling in the title.*

The Messianic Congregations that I have attended were at Baptist Churches held on Saturdays. They always greeted me with a warm welcome. There was lots of singing and dancing which I do not care for. I always like a good sermon. I noticed a lot of kissing and touching of the bible and scrolls. I was brought up in a ultra conservative Baptist congregation.

Ours is somewhat a standard Jewish service. Since our congregation is known for it's worship music, A LOT of dancing and praising The Lord with song. Was watching Fiddler on the Roof a couple nights ago and the wedding scene reminds me of how our congregation worships after the standard liturgy.

I enjoy worshipping with Chasidim, they really know 'how to get down'. I remember listening to a Dr Michael Brown audio where he shared his experience with talking with Chasidim in NYC. Brown and the Chasidim were so fired up for God they started dancing in the street. Brown was talking to them about Messiah coming and they got fired up.

I have ever had a MJ group of only 2. The blood lineage of my fellow is western & Jewish, mine is Middle Eastern & Chinese. We used English, Chinese ,and Hebrew(in liturgy). We also prayed for Israel and others. Very strange sense, as if with us 2 was the whole globe.

I think I have see it... A whole lot of praise and carry on going on but little worship results from the experience. There is no respecting the awesomeness of God in it.

Exactly, it's all emotion, very little substance in it.
Praise can be seen in the people as Yeshua entered Jerusalem for that last time. Worship when Thomas realized his Lord was alive. Very different things going on.

We've done dancing in our services and I love it..more on that shared in "Before the Lord": Should Messianic Fellowships allow Dance/the Arts in Service? . Dancing is a big part of Jewish culture in so many ways and it is odd whenever people act as if it's something to be ashamed of. The Chasidim know how to jam I love how they can bust a move whenever the spirit moves upon them and they rejoice...
