I did open beta and stress test. Good game, 60,000x better than FFXI (well, any game is). Thankfully retail = pay to play. So there won't be any of the cheapskates that keep complaining about the game on the forums.

("I'm Cancelling my preorder !!! This lag in the beta is unexcusable!! ....I wish I was playing WoW right now...")

I love it. I am so going to get it. This is the only MMORPG I have found worth playing other than CoH, but that got old after a while. They really give you a lively environment, combat and tradeskills are fun, and it's the most casual-gamer-friendly online game I've seen. The others took too much time, like FFXI (I have a rant of FFXI on these boards somewhere). I also admire how they made rather shoddy graphics look really good.

I played a dwarf hunter for open beta, and for retail I'll be playing troll shaman as I did for the stress test a few months ago.

I'm a huge Blizzard games fan, but I'll probably skip this one. Warcraft3 was a major disappointment for me (fewer ways to win), and I understand that MMORPGs take a big time commitment. Besides, killing the same monster that 3,000,000 other people have already killed, takes something away from the experience. Also, there's only so many hours in the day!

This is my first MMO, and I love it.

I'm sending my boyfriend to pick up my copy tomorrow; we both pre-ordered, but i have class pretty late, and he's going out in the afternoon. If I sweet talk him, he might even install it for me Gotta love nerd boyfriends.

Yeah, I did open beta and got tired of people saying "This is so unexcusable, I can't believe this lag... the servers are down," blah blah blah, gripe gripe gripe. I mean, it's a beta, and you're playing for free. By the end, the servers were pretty slick, imo. Loot lag did suck for awhile, but I think they got it straightened out.

I joined a fairly mature guild; most the members are at least a half a decade older than me, and they don't have too many requirements for membership, besides help out if you can, sort of thing.

I look forward to fishing; didn't do it in the beta because I thought it was a profession; ie, didn't get the difference between primary and secondary professions.

My character was a rogue NE; will probably recreate her, and pick up herbalism/alchemy again, and fish in the downtime. Homework? Bah, it gets done... sort of...

Use leatherworking and skinning instead.

Skinning + Leatheworking for Rogue = much better armor than drops, shops, and quests; especially at lower levels.

All of the systems are rather complex to be explained here, so I'll give you the links that answer your questions.

Is this PK or limited Pk?

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/realmtypes.html

This discusses the realm types, and the main variation involved in these types is the PvP systems, so this will tell you about how PvP works in the two server types (there's a third server type, roleplaying, but it is irrelevent to the PvP systems).

If I die what happens to my stuff?

Death system here:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/death.html

It's pretty lenient in this game compared to previous MMOs.

And most important will it work with a dial up?

That... I can't answer. Chances are you'll have some lag issues. But don't take my word for it.

Well, I wasn't going to get it (still not buying it myself ) but my mom asked me if there was anything in particular I wanted for Christmas and I had said "World of Warcraft!" before I caught myself so I'm kind of stuck with the selection now. Yeah, that's it, I'm stuck with it. I just hope she lets me have it well before the holidays.

I did the beta and love it, though I got really tired of all the whiners complaining about the lag. For crying out loud, they were deliberately lagging the servers to find any problems. People should know by now that Blizzard is almost neurotic about releasing near bug-free games so it's no wonder they did something like that.

I did skinning/leather with my dwarf hunter because it seemed like a good rp idea and it was nice being able to make my own armor and quite profitable as well. Just hang around where non-skinners are killing skinnable mobs and you can fill your bags up in a hurry.

I only wish they'd charge by time played or something. If I get this game, I'll only be able to play on weekends, and not for too long at that. Seems like I'd be flushing money.

It looks like a great game though.
I know what you mean, but it still won't really crimp your lvling too much with the rest xp thing. Just camp all your characters out at an inn or in a city zone and you gain rest xp which basically moves a little slider up your xp bar while you are in that zone (camped out or logged in). Then when you start playing, all xp gained up to the slider is 200%. The slider will only go up to 1.5 lvls past the current xp lvl but still, it's better than grinding and falling farther and farther behind your friends.

Hey, I was beginning to think no one here was interested in the game!

I'm glad I stopped by...we've got a great Christian guild going over at www dot toj dot cc/wow - free free to check us out!

If you're interested, stop by in our forums and say hi!

Thanks for your time, and hopefully I can meet up with some of you in-game!

btw - we're playing on the Illidan server in the central timezone

edit - oh, and I just had to add that it was these very forums where I met up with a bunch of Christian WoW fans, and that's when we decided to start the guild...I thought that was very cool

That takes 10 days, and since 100% (or 50% depending on how you look at it) of the 200% is the actual kill percent, you're only getting 0.75 lvls worth of exp, AND you better not finish any quests in the meantime or it's wasted.

0.75 levels is really... not a lot, for 1.5 weeks of not playing.

Well, if you're determined not to play other than trying to methodically get every point of free xp with perfect efficiency, then it would definately be a waste of time. However, the option to get a bit of a bonus while not logged in is helpful to the more casual gamers. Of course there is probably a formula that demonstrates that you actually lose xp for playing?

Not really, for every day I play, I could probably gain around 2 levels (past that initial day's rush), so by not playing for 10 days, I've just lost myself around 19 levels. Opportunity cost.

They need to up the max you can get (in the same number of days) or it's really just a worthless gimmick. At least one level's worth of EXP a day would allow you to really keep up.
