• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hopefully, all of you know that the issues I was having have been resolved. It was mostly my fault because I was acting as an Advocate/Protector mod, not understanding that Jim and Flag were trying to insure an even playing field.

So, how do we do both? How do we have an open, inviting, and warm forum in which our members are not subject to attack?

We need RULES!

Yes, we have them already, but they are not working in a way that we can truly enforce without causing bad feelings all around.

So, here are some of the things that are currently being worked on, and some other things that I think we need to accomplish:

I urge all membership to participate! This is important if we do not want to go through this kind of stress anymore.

Definitions! GreenMunchkin and Hentenza are leading the way on this. There is a thread out there. Get in there and help! It is very, very difficult to define fellowship, debate, and baiting. They are very close to being done, but it would be great is more members could read and critique what they have done. The more voices we hear, the better the definitions will be!

Strike 3 Rule! This is one that I have a thread about. Again, we need to hear your voices. I believe we have confirmed that it will not clash with site wide rules. However, it may still need more tweaking. I think we are almost ready to go to poll with this one.

Open vs Closed Forums: This is an idea. We have a Main Forum. We have a debate forum. We need rules that state who can participate in what. Would it be better to create a whole new forum that is Closed only to Members? In other words, we would have the Main Forum for fellowshipping. We would have the Debate forum. Then, we would have a Closed Forum in which only members would participate. This is where we would write our rules and hold our polls.

Member Rules: We have made alot of rules to protect ourselves, and more are being made everyday. However, what about some member rules in which we are creating rules about when it is appropriate to report someone. Perhaps, they would be more like guidelines rather than rules. Not enforceable against members, but a reminder of how we should treat guests in the name of Jesus.

Post more ideas here about how we can make this the best congregation on the site. We can have Thursday night Bible studies. We can have mission and outreach work. We want to be known as the Christians who go out of their forum and do not cause trouble but bring comfort, peace, and love.

There are so many possibilities. The sky is the limit. How can we use this forum for the Glory of God?

^ This was started, and I found it earlier. I am going to bump it.

I am not sure how. I feel we need a poll and to follow through with the debate format as that reflects the definition thread. As for the subforum for members only, I guess we need a discussion going, to see if everyone thinks its a good idea. I can start the discussion, but not sure how to do a poll. <---- do we need to start a poll or was there one and I just didn't see it??

And by the way I am soooooo glad you are staying as our Mod.

Heh, am such a clean-freak I LOVE that idea... only thing is, realistically, if we have that as a sub-forum, we'd be moving traffic away from the main forum and I'm not sure we should be doing that... also, once we've hammered all of this out, rules and polls won't come up enough to warrant a separate sub-forum, I don't think.

But, really, LOVE the idea :D Compartmentalization... :yum:

Great ideas here Lisa...

I really, really like the idea of a closed forum. That would have been SO helpful these past few weeks. Hindsight is 20/20.

I've been trying to help, though I know I probably mix things up more than anything else. Not sure if it's better that I let others take the lead or not. But I'll do what I'm asked and will try to add input.

Yep, you should start a discussion thread first. Then, after you feel that you know exactly what everyone wants, you start a poll so everything is kosher. Many more members will vote in a poll even if they have not participated in the discussion and the clarification of what is wanted.

So, the discussion is used to get a good idea of exactly how to proceed. The poll is used to insure that all members agree.

Would you work with Nikki with the Members Only for Rules and Polls forum? We need more strong leaders in here. GM, Hen, James, and myself need EVERYONE to get involved and that will help us better serve.

Smilies are good and so are very pointed PM's. ;)

However, get your experienced member butt in here and start working on some things with us. Tell us if things will fly or not from a site wide perspective.

I would like to know if we go through the effort of making these rules will they actually be upheld? Or will this board's moderators be unable to enforce the rules if some supermod feels different?

That is being worked out, and that is the point of this thread. If we can get rules that are more enforceable and do not clash with site wide rules, I can concentrate on being an Advocate/Protector mod who only has to deal with black and white, rather than all the gray areas we have right now.

It is going to work, but solid rules will be what drives our ability to govern ourselves.
