Just to chat....

What are your current favorite tunes to listen to now? Currently, I like to listen to a mix of Renaissance and Baroque songs for the Latin Mass to calm me down at night so that I can sleep.

And then in the daytime, I will listen to Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood and other similiar country musicians. A friend challenged me not to be so closed minded about country. So I am listening to it over and over until I build up a tolerance for it ;)

Sometimes though...I just can't do it any longer and will turn on Third Day or Christian Radio.

I've been listening to a lot of chant from Taize. Then also some Celtic Hymns from a CD I have. Both are really calming.

As far as secular music is concerned, I'm usually listening to whatever is being played on the local radio station. Do we have any other Lady Gaga fans here in the Parish? ;) :D

I'm not a real fan of country either, Maid Marie. I can tolerate it to an extent, especially some of the newer stuff. Although, I do like Bluegrass. :)

It changes extremely frequently. Partially due to the way I manage data on my computer, though it would happen anyway. The most I can say is that chances are it's some form of rock or metal (although not by any means exclusively those, and there's a wide variety of subgenres I listen to). Also, generally there's almost always a good showing of whatever iTunes and Amazon have been putting into their freebies section, and like I just said, that changes frequently too - because iTunes changes said offerings weekly (Amazon tends to keep tracks free for longer, sometimes for years, but they feature them in daily intervals; it used to be weekly, but that's not been true for a while).

RE: country, I find very little of the pop-country stuff to be tolerable, comparatively speaking, and I've been exposed to it since the 90s thanks to my parents listening to it a lot. I usually don't mind alt-country or some isolated folk tracks, though.

I have been listening to more INXS, Collective Soul, and Depeche Mode tracks over the past week. Really just because I snagged a few CDs from Borders' going out of business sale. 50% off is nice.

I had respect for you right up until then. Shame. ;)

As to what I'm listening to;

Last night on Itunes I bought Iron Butterfly - In-a-gadda-da-vida, Kiss - I was made for lovin' you, Toto - Africa, Tchaikovsky - Waltz of the Flowers (The Nutcracker)

Not sure what that says about me :D
60s-80s hits and Romantic Orchestral music

My music goes through phases varying pretty much anything from the mediaeval period to now, with the exceptions of Rap/Hip-Hop and Lady Gaga ;) :D

Taize to Lady Gaga...hmmm.....

The newer stuff is what my friend suggested I try. It is more tolerable to me than the 'tear in my beer' kind of songs. Bluegrass is good, too. Although, to me bluegrass is more a study of culture than music to relax to.

Me, too. Saddens me to hear that Borders is going out of business. Being a reader, it saddens me whenever I hear of a bookstore closing.

Not sure what that says about me :D

Having lived through the 80s, I always kind of wonder about anyone's continued fascination with 80s music ;)

We're going to see Chicago with the Tacoma Symphony next week, so I've been listening to them quite a bit. I also listen to a program called "The Organ Loft" on the local Classical music station on Sunday nights--they play a lot of organ music (obviously) but also a lot of sacred choral music. Other than that, I've been listening to the Oldies/Classic Rock stations for some Chicago music, so I'm hearing a lot of their contemporaries.

Chicago is one of the few classic rock groups that I can listen to.

A radio station used to play sacred choral which I really liked. But haven't heard them play it lately :(

Well, I'm sorry that I've lost you're respect, Mr. Dave. :p ;) ^_^

I'm in total agreement with you about Rap/Hip-Hop though. :D

My family while in the States listened to Contemporary Christian music exclusively.

Here in Europe, we listen to klassic on radio and our Contemporary Christian CDs. At least those that were not damaged in the move. Some are scratched and I need to repair or replace them. We like the WOW series.

Be blessed,

Many of my relatives like K-Love. I think you can listen to that station on the internet.

Just realised I'm wearing a Status Quo t-shirt. Does that count as relevant?

Absolutely!

And I just saw on their website that they are going to be at a Miners Day Fest in the Czech Republic. Might see some super distant cousins there...

Mr Dave,
Thank you so much Brother! But, unfortunately, I am tied to TKS wireless internet right now. We don't get our DSL line until the 19th. Then, I would imagine that some in my neighborhood will hear your links and WGTS.org, WRBS.com and WIBI.org on my computer. I have a 7.1 digital sound card and speaker system hooked up to the big PC to do just that.

I also like the selection on utube of Christian artists, especially when I am trying to decide on songs I want to sing for special music in services. Here in Germany, I suppose I need to find a church home first........

Be blessed,
Lee52

Funny :) Actually, I have never heard of them at all before this thread. I did an internet search for them, came upon the website and it caught my eye since my great grandfather was a miner in Bohemia for a while. He kept trying to organize unions which got him in constant trouble. Finally, he and his wife decided it was time to head to the US for an easier life.
