Basically, I asked the question, "what has God done that makes him worthy of worship?"

However, discussion then led to the topic of what can any being can do that would justify them demanding that they be worshiped.

At the moment, I'm drawing a blank. Nothing I can think of is a good enough good to make worship justified.

Ideas?

I thought I'd ask here as well, as I'd appreciate the neutral standpoint of atheists and other non-Christians in answering this question without the use of scripture.

Well, there's a zillion things that make God the Father, Jesus the Son, the Holy Spirit worthy of worship. One God..so mainly for now, I'll say...God's goodness and blessings to us.

Any being worthy of worship would be above wanting to be worshipped.

That statement reflects your feelings; generally about yourself..

God is a jealous God.

found this in ot..however, worhsip is much in nt as well:

Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

If a Being created me and gave me life and created this universe for me to exist in, and gave me the hope of eternal life with Him if I use the first gift to love others; and then knowing that I would fail to love others perfectly and completely, told me I could rely on His grace and forgiveness; I would say that being is worthy of my love.

Dear Taure. A Being who made a Universe out of a Chaos, who made men and women in His image, who forgave being ignored, who gave His All to reconcile us to Him, who is all Love and Forgiveness, and is waiting now for us to Repent, to exchange our selfish and wilful nature, into a loving and caring one. This wonderful Being we call God, our Heavenly Father. Who could feel anything else but utter Worship? utter Love and Devotion? We also have Jesus to help us to learn to love again, to love as our God loves us. And we have many years to become as God wants us to be, worthy to live eternally with Him and with our Christian brothers and sisters. I say this humbly and with love, Taure, and send greetings. Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Perhaps you're correct, but then that puts me in a higher state of virtue than the God you reference. How ironic.

It is quite normal that a non Christian put themselves in a higher state of virture than God.

It's called worhsiping the created rather than the Creator. With created being self of course.

So, I don't see the irony; just the norm.

Actually I think the point is more either you worship God or you don't. You can't, pardon the expression, half-ass it.

It's not about being worthy.

In it's most simplistic sense, you may be correct. But I think the OP asks whether God is "worthy" of worship. What you might choose to do with that conclusion is all you. But I think this is a discussion less of "what," but of "why."

It is not that He created us and is all powerful. An all powerful creator could be malevolent. And then, worship would only be out of His selfish desires and our fear of retribution. No, it that He is perfect in love. That we were created for the sole purpose of relating with Him, being loved by Him and in return loving Him and each other.

Creating the universe, perhaps. Of course, there's no way of knowing whether said being wants to be worshipped, unless you believe in a specific holy book (which I don't).

Worship and prayer are simply done for the psychological benefit of the person doing them.
