I use Ubuntu. I tried ith with the KDE environment and didn't really like it. Ubuntu has almost everything I need, but I've tried some of the other distros. And the only reason I still keep Winsows around is because for Illustrator and Fruity Loops.

Ubuntu, although I typically use Fluxbox as my environment rather than GNOME or KDE.
I installed Fluxbox but I keep on getting an error message at startup.

What's the error?

If you don't want to exit out and struggle switching between environments, Xnest is very handy. Allows another session in a nested window so you can effectively run two environments at once. I used it a lot while I was configuring Fluxbox. I'd be using GNOME, and have Fluxbox open in an Xnest window, do all my configurating, and when I was finished I could just log out of both, sign in under Fluxbox and go.

Gentoo. Once you try it you'll never be able to live without portage again. Compile times are the only thing that can be a bother, but on a fairly new box it's usually not too painful.
I've stayed away from Gentoo 'cause I've been told it's a pain in the ass to setup. I've only ran the live CD once, didn't really try it.

Btw, man utd 2 - scousers 0 :p

It kind of is, it took me a couple days on and off, about 6 hours of active work in total I guess, plus all of the compiling and whatnot, but I've never had to reinstall since, and it's kind of fun if you're in the right mood. There's something satisfying about saying that you bootstrapped your OS, and the looks you get are priceless.

And I know. It's going to be a grim year, I'm hoping we can sneak into the UEFA cup next season, but I'm not sure whether I'm optimistic about it or not.

I'm usually up for it. Btw, how is their forums and online help? I kinda was forced to go with Ubuntu, had to clean install, no dual boot. I was surprised how helpful the forums were!

Just hoping you can sneak into the UEFA cup? That's what a Bolton fan would say.

The Gentoo documentation is some of the most complete I've ever seen. It's certainly enough to get through an average install, and the forums are great if something goes wrong (which happens).

Sigh...don't I know it. I like to keep my expectations low though, that way I won't be disappointed. The defence has been awful this year, Finnan and Riise look like they belong on a high school team.

I've used SUSE, Debian (fave), Mandrake, Red Hat, Ubuntu (and variants), Slackware and even FreeBSD.
They are great...almost.
Much as I like unix variants, I have some hardware & software that is not *nix compatable.
So I'll have to stick with XP for the foreseeable future.
I really miss not having to bother about spyware/viruses, etc.

Something about some directory or something missing. I'm not sure. I don't think I installed it right. Installing stuff manually is the only thing I keep having problems with.
Ah. I just grabbed it from the repositories, although I remember getting an error message due to the background/wallpaper control program (fbsetbg or something; it's been too long since I've had to deal with it) not doing what it should. Can't remember what I did to fix it but now the only problem I have is if I move the file it's pointing at.

I doubt it could have something to do with Dapper, although I installed Fluxbox while I was still using Breezy.

Same here. I need Photoshop, Illustrator and Fruity Loops. Photoshop is easier to be without 'cause GIMP is great, but Inkscape sucks ass. I miss Illustrator :(
