Dear Natalie,
All of the word of God is as true today as it was when it was written, however, Jesus fulfilled the OT law. We are no longer under the law (Paul calls the law the ministry of death in 1 Cor. 3) and are under grace (Paul calls it the ministry of the Spirit). The bible tells us that those that live by the law will be judged by the law (all of the law) (Romans 2).
The law is the Mosaic law which includes laws to reveal to the Israelites how to obey and please God (the Ten Commandments, for example), laws to show the Israelites how to worship God and atone for sin (the sacrificial system), and laws intended to make the Israelites distinct from other nations (the food and clothing rules). All of the law was fulfilled by Christ (Gal. 3).
Jesus fulfilled the law. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (Gal. 3). Surely Christ did not fulfill only part of the law since that would mean that we are still under it and Christ failed. Christ fulfilled ALL of the law and that includes ALL of the Mosaic law including the ten commandments.
Now, Christ, by His grace, gave us the ministry of the Spirit which is grace. We are saved by faith through grace not of works so that we can not boast. Grace can not be earned since earned grace is no grace at all. Christ gave us two commandments which summarize the commandments to love God and the commandments to love others. Jesus told us that all of the Law and the prophets hang on these two commandments (Matt. 22:40). All of the original ten commandments are reaffirmed except for the 4th commandment. Remember that since the original 10 commandments are part of the Mosaic law, and since Jesus fulfilled all of the law then the 4th commandment is fulfilled. Jesus command us to follow HIS commandments (John 14:15).
Jesus commandments do not include keeping any one particular day holy but to live as if every day is for the Lord. We can keep any day of the week holy or every day of the week. It matters not because we live for the Lord and die for the Lord, hence we are the Lord's.
Romans 14
6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lords.
Also, no one can judge us for not keeping the Jewish Sabbath.
Col. 2
16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
Ok, this is long enough.lol!!!
I am sorry, scripture can be missinterpreted by many to lead those who follow GOD astray.
Sure, but the only way to know where the teaching is coming from IS to study the word. I believe in the verbal plenary inerrancy of scripture which means that I believe that every word was written with a purpose.
We look at old testament Laws from the standpoint of children who do not wish to suffer for their wrong doing.
The OT laws were given to Israel not to the gentiles. All that live by the law will perish by the law. By grace we live because all glory is of God not of us. None of us can earn salvation. I posit to you that Jesus fulfilled ALL 613 laws of the old covenant. If He didn't then Jesus failed.
We do not seek to look at them from our Heavenly Fathers view point. How does one escape the sentence/verdict/punishment of Murder? They do not murder.
How can one murder and follow Jesus command to love your neighbor as yourself?
We concentrate on the punishment which is due and thnk we will escape another way. There is no way out except turning to GOD, repenting from sin and full devotion and obedience to HIM.
Sure but can we do it by ourselves? Can man turn to God by himself? Can man repent by himself? Can man obey by himself?
Salvation is God's work and ONLY God's. We receive absolutely no credit. None. Many have tried but ALL have failed.
Also, there is no punishment due to those with saving faith. None. We rest in the promise of justification by faith through the grace of God. We are made righteous by God for God. When we are justified by faith the penalty of sin has already been paid by Jesus sacrifice on the cross. If believers with saving faith are still subject to the penalty of sin then Jesus did not accomplish anything on the cross and we are still in our sins.
Ezekiel 34:11 For this i what the Sovereign Lord says; I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.
This was done through Christ Jesus, for Jesus always claimed that he came on behalf of the Father. The Jew first and then the Gentile. Read Isaiah 56
Absolutely. The verse is clear that God himself does the searching and the electing. God is indeed sovereign.
Now let us talk for a moment about the Holy Spirit. In the following scripture you will hopefully see why I said it was evil to say that keeping GOD's Laws and Commandments are work against the Grace offered through Christ Jesus.
Ezekiel 36:25-27 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. I will remove from you your heart of stone, and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
Those Christians with saving faith work from salvation not for salvation. Jesus already paid the price. There is not a single person living that is free of sin. None. That is the reason for grace. If we could save ourselves by following His commandments we would not need a savior. I am obedient to Jesus commandments because I love Him not because the "law" tells me. Jesus gave us 2 commandments which summarize the law of the prophets.
BTW- Ezekiel 36:16-38 is poleptic prophesy. Some of the prophesy was fulfilled by Jesus but some has not been fulfilled yet. For example, the Holy Spirit was given to the believer as our counselor. This is what Paul calls the ministry of the Spirit. However, the portions regarding Israel will be fulfilled at the end of times when all of Israel will again be His people.
I am not saying I am innocent for GOD is still at work in me, but I am humbled enough before HIM to realize that it is HIS COMMANDS that lead to eternal life and CHRIST JESUS is our ticket there. All those who claim to know Christ Jesus and have the endwelling presence of the HOLY SPIRIT within them, if they hearken to it and not their own evil ways they will find ETERNITY. Delight in doing GOD's Commandments, keeping his laws and decrees, loving HIM enough to give up self and whole heartedly live for HIM are what we are to do.
How does Romans 4 fit in your theory of salvation by works?
Consider Ephesians 2
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Notice how we are saved (past tense) through faith and ONLY faith.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
The result of being made into a new creation. Also notice how ALL of the works that we do are prepared ahead of time. How can one keep the Jewish law then?
11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the fleshwho are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Notice how Paul talks about the law of circumcision as relating to the law of Israel. The law is a work apart from God. Done by the flesh by the hands in the flesh.
14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,
Jesus by His flesh abolished the law of commandments contained in ordinances. That includes ALL 613 ordinances contained in the Mosaic law. All of them not just a few.
16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Only through Jesus Christ do we have receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the access to the Father. Not by the law.
Natalie, Jesus died on the cross for us while we were still sinners. That means that we are not perfect and won't be until after death when the Lord will glorify us. That is the last step of salvation. The first step is justification by the grace of God through faith. This first step removes the penalty of sin. Sanctification, the second step of salvation, is the life long process where God progressively removes the power of sin. This is accomplished by the counseling and convicting of the Holy Spirit. We can not do any of this on our own or by following the Jewish law. No one has ever been saved by the Law. Not even in OT times.
Matthew 12:30-32 "He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or the one to come."
Galatians 5:16-18
16So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
Galatians 5:22-23
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Hebrews 12:2, 3
2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Galatians 3:7-9
7Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. 8The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you." 9So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

The new covenant was prophesied in Jeremiah 31.
31 Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah 32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
And proclaimed by Christ in Luke 22:
20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
The new covenant is salvation by grace of God through the sacrifice of the cross by faith in our savior Jesus Christ. (The good news of the Gospel).
The result of the fulfillment of the Mosaic law is:
Galatians 2
11 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; 12 for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews? 15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.
In short, the new covenant is the free gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. In other words, the good news of the gospel.
Tell me brother, do you know what is included in the gospel that we are commanded to preach to the whole world?
.the ministry of death passed away already. Jesus Christ conquered death by His resurrection and the rest of the believers after physical death. Remember that scripture tells us that all will die once (Heb. 9:27). You are thinking of the earthly death not the glorious promise of eternal life in the presence of the Lord. I would suggest that you leave the earthly things behind
Is Jesus God? The new covenant fulfilled the Mosaic law which means that it passed away. All 613 commandments of the Mosaic law passed away.
I don't see the relevance of the earthly material used by God to write His commandments to the Jews.
Sure did. God gave the Jews the law, therefore, the law is indeed holy and perfect. Do you know what the purpose of the law was?
There are two possibilities. Either the writers of the bible contradict themselves, which is not likely, or it is a flaw in your understanding. I am not saying this as a jab to you but as a statement of fact. I have come to the conclusion that most answers are revealed by patience and study
Please address the verses that I posted instead of posting an opinion.
1 Cor 3
13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
BTW- Where the Jews able to follow every word of God, obey God, and walk with God?
From the verse that you quoted, which covenant includes the promise of the Holy Spirit? Which commandments were given to the Apostles?
Where is those verses does Paul affirm the law? The narrative is about Paul and Barnabas preaching the gospel of the kingdom to both Jews and gentiles, however, the Jews rejected the kingdom so it was then preached to the gentiles which made the Jews envious and resulted in Paul and Barnabas being expelled from the city. Paul preaches the word on the Sabbath merely because logistically the Jews are already at the temple and therefore, Paul can reach a majority of Jews. No where in these verses does Paul affirms the law. The truth of scripture is that Paul understood perfectly the fulfillment of the law and how a believer was justified in the new covenant. Paul tells us in Gal 2 that one is justified by faith apart from the law not by the keeping of the law. I seriously doubt that Paul is contradicting himself.
Can you please cite biblical evidence to support your statement
long after Jesus resurrection the New Covenant firmly in place the Aspostle Paul taught the Gentiles to keep the sabbath!!!
