• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I will go first:

I have osteoarthritis in my lower back. It causes me pain but not always every single day. However, sometimes it makes it hard for me to do things I really want to do.

Sometimes I have missed church because of the pain.

I am avoiding prescription pain medicine as I have no insurance. I go to a "free clinic" with volunteer doctors and they have said I could take three advil at a time. What a huge difference that has made in my life. I still have some bad days but I am able to be much more active now.

Hi. I'm glad I can post here because I don't want to complain to my loved ones because I know they don't want to hear it and I just don't want to be a whiner. I haven't been diagnosed with anything because I'm not insured and can't afford to make any medical bills. I have been online to try and diagnos myself but I feel like a hypochondriac. I have partial numbness, pins and needles sensations, and muscle weakness all on my left side. I sometimes have a hard time remembering things or finding the right words to say and sometimes I am very fatigued. I have been dealing with progressive symptoms since 2003. The weakness and partial numbness is always there but there are times when I feel so bad and it's painful. And then there are times like today where it doesn't really bother me and I ignore the numb feeling because I can still function pretty well and as long as I'm not lethargic I can get things done. My mind has been pretty clear lately so I'm doing good. I wish there was someone I could talk to about these symptoms who knew what was wrong with me so I wouldn't feel so alone or like a hypochondriac trying to get attention because I'm not the type of person who needs attention, I also don't like to complain to much but when you are feeling bad sometimes you can't help it, you know what I mean. I don't really talk about it very much with my family because they will just say that I need to go to the doctor and I don't have insurance. I really don't like going to the doctor, I haven't had good experiences with doctors I feel like they just don't care and are ready to just give you a pill that they have to endorse because they get "extras" from the pharmecutical companies when they do. A lot of doctors today are not interested in the person just the money. And I don't like taking medicine. I only take medicine for the pain when it's to hard to tolerate it any longer but then I am worried that whatever is wrong with me can cut my life short and I have 3 little ones to worry about. Sometimes I think I just need to live by my father's philosphy which is it's better not knowing then knowing because as soon as you find out you start to go downhill. But then again if I find out and I can be given medications to stop the progression of whatever is happening to me, my quality of life can be better in the long run. I just don't know, and what if I have a chronic disease, then I will have medical bills I can't afford to have. I have noticed that my muscle tone in my left arm and leg have become weaker which is a new symptom. Oh well. I am responsible for myself and my children, I think I need to just go to the free health clinic and see what could be the matter but I don't like them. Last year I went and the doctor there and she made me feel bad. Like I was trying to get attention and was probrably just stressed and she really didn't take my symptoms seriously. So I'm just venting because like I said I don't want to complain at home because who wants to listen to a whiner. And that is what is wrong with me.

Aww.. Hun, I would be so good if you could get that medical insurance and get to a doctor... It'd be better if you knew now so that you can get the treatment you are needing.

For me, I have Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, but whilst it can be annoying, it's not a real big deal anymore. I used to have scoliosis, but thankfully, Jesus healed me when I was 18 God is Good. Other than general allergies etc etc, I'm a happy camper

I wonder if a program like this would work for you: http://www.sentara.com/Sentara/News...are_to_uninsured_in_virginia_beach_and_no.htm

This is an article about free medical care services for the uninsured.

I have no health insurance as well and I use a free medical clinic set up by volunteer doctors and nurses. It is a Christian place as well which is very good. The problem with it is that they are only open two nights a week for two hours each. So, sometimes it is hard to get in there. However, they have been very good to me when I have made it in.

Hi. I'm glad I can post here because I don't want to complain to my loved ones because I know they don't want to hear it and I just don't want to be a whiner.

I can so relate to that! Sucks about the no medical insurence thing... Is there a free clinic or something you can try?

This year has really sucked for my family. First my husband got sick (appendicitis) then my mum did (also appendicitis!) then I had knee surgery (slowly recovering, seeing a physiotherapist) and then I found out I have a cyst in my brain. Long story but basically I fractured my skull when I was 10 (am 20 now), had headaches ever since, over the past 12 months they have gotten unbearable so saw my GP....she sent me straight for a CT scan....and hence the finding of the cyst. Report says probably epidermoid - have to wait for my neurosurgeon appointment next week.

I have tried talking to various people about it...(though have not yet told everyone, it's not general knowledge in my circle) My mother pretty much dismissed it (and picked a fight wih me as I was explaining it?) my husband is supportive but I know when I finally honestly admit my fears he will freak out...um my friends? Well one doesn't want to hear it, another is got so worried when I told him about it he wanted to move from one end of the state to the other tosupport me/make sure I don't die! So he is clearly not the right person to admit my fears to (lest he have a nervous breakdown). I have told a couple more friends but they are so busy I really don't want to burden them any further. Plus it seems liek I have only just finished telling one friend why I couldn't talk to/see them las week because mum/husband was sick when I have yet another problem with me/in my family. So I feel like a complete sook :o

So I smile and try not to think about it. Does this technique work for anyone else?

Hi everyone!!
I had ovarian cancer last year, which resulted in a total hysterectomy.
8 years ago my gallbladder was removed.
14 years ago my spleen was ruptured, so now I get sick at the drop of a hat, or so it seems.
And I've been a diabetic (type 1,insulin dependent) for almost 16 years.
My stomach has been cut open so many times (total of 7) I could be the bride of Frenkenstein (sp?). I have suggested that they install a zipper for easy access! LOL!!!
There, but for the Grace of G-d, go I.

I suffer from migraines. I'm on a med that's reduced the severity, but not the frequency of them. When they were at their worst, and I had no appropriate meds for them, I'd spend three days in misery at least once a month.

I also had terrible and recurring fibroids and polyps that caused pretty awful symptoms. Finally had a total hysterectomy a few years back and am feeling MUCH better now!

Dear GryffinSong:

I, too, had endometriosis and fybroids. I had a partial H-extomy with a left ovary intact. I also used to suffer from migraines. It runs in the family. However, I have been taking Celexa, which increases my sertatonin levels. Seratonin helps with migraines. Since, I've been taking Celexa, my migraines are infrequent. I only get them once in a blue moon.

Hawthorn berry,
Magnesium,
Cayenne

Arganine
Potassium

I have found a supplement "Blood Pressure Factors" which have most of these.

Dear GryffinSong,
I, too, grew up with migraines. Since I have been on Celexa, I only get them once every three or four months.

I, too, was riddled with fibroids and endometriosis. Plumbing was surgically removed when I was 42. It was as if I was born anew.

Love to you,
Kim

I was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (a type of Muscular Dystrophy). This is accompanied by Anterior Horn Cell Disease. I was able to walk until I was 16. At that time, my scoliosis was treated with spinal fusion surgery. They said I might not be able to walk after the surgery, but it saved my life, so thems the breaks!

Part of that affects my lungs and I've been a severe asthmatic since age 4 (treated on meds since 8). I also have severe allergies and have had both pneumonia & bronchitis multiple times.

A few years back, I fell during a transfer from my wheelchair and fractured my tibia...this has led to a lot of pain in my body and too much time in bed.
