  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What Is Your Purpose?

Hi everyone...

I've read several books on being a person of purpose and have tried to be true to what I believe God has called me to be here on this big blue globe. :)

This can also be connected to the gifts/talents God has given you.

Have you noticed how important it is for us to know our purpose? I cant tell you how many times I've had people come to me about it. They are seeking not only a place to fit in, but to be accepted. Have you ever been the kid that gets picked last in gym class? Have you ever been in a situation where you want to contribute something valuable and cant find anything to do?

Elderly people face this all the time. They are no longer valued as they once were because they are limited physically or even mentally. It's the beginning of the end for them when all they have to do all day is sit and watch tv. :(

We all need to feel good about ourselves and our contributions in life. :tutu:

So what is YOUR purpose? :)

Ok...I'll start.

I have more than one...I think most people do.

God has gifted me with a desire to serve...I serve Him, my husband (one day!), my church, my family, and my friends. I also serve the community I live in. :)

One way I serve is through administration. I really, really like to help out in this area and I do so in many arenas. Here at CF (will always be CF to me ;)), my church, my boyfriends website, etc.

Another purpose of mine is through the gift of music the Lord has given me. I've recently taken a break from it, but I believe that is apart of my ultimate purpose. I love to sing...have since I was a child. And music is an important part of peoples lives. It's a powerful instrument in which to affect the world. Or at least your little corner of it. ;)

Lastly, I'm an encourager. I enjoy pointing people to Jesus and showing them love. Encouraging comes naturally to me.

I'm moving over to a new church, so I'm waiting to see what God wants me to do.

Sunday morning in church, after the service, I started to play the drums to accompany this young woman who was playing an electric guitar. It sounded OK, so there's the possibility that I might do some of that after getting a few lessons.

I work in a street team, but the Devil's taken me out of action a bit this year: first with a broken leg, then with chicken pox which put me in hospital.

I see my purpose as trying to get more like God wants me to be, as well. I wish I was doing better at it though.

One thing the Lord has been trying to hammer home to me is to love...everyone. More importantly to show love...His love. There are so many verses that talk about this. 1 John is full of them. :) But it is very easy to love those we love and those who love us back. And yet, where is the merit in that? What I need to learn to do is love and show love to those who do not love me. To love those and show love to those who I do not love. Having said that I would say that my purpose is to show love to others in any way I can. Two ways that I find easy to do this are through encouragement and prayer.

Awesome Joe! A good drummer is often hard to find. It's good that you wish to do better, that's a sign of true humility.

Amen GT...He's called us all to love more often, and more deeply. You do this well my friend. :)

Good question!!

My purpose is to serve God. Nothing else can compete with that.:amen::amen::clap:

I have a couple of gifts that the HS has blessed me with. The gift of discernment and the gift of teaching. I enjoy teaching bible study tremendously and the gift of discernment has given me the ability to help those that need it.

Would you say one of your purposes here is teaching then? :)

Have you read "The Purpose Driven Life"?

I have just finished reading the book "extravagant WORSHIP" by Darlene Zschech. Excellent book! I would recommend it to anyone who wants to be encouraged. You don't need to be a worship leader to appreciate the timeless truths she presents in this book. :)

I'm going to type a portion of it in here soon. Gotta go right now but later this evening will do so. Cause I think it's sooo encouraging and it talks about our purpose. :)

Prayer, encouragement and loving people.
Not too good at them yet , but God is teaching me a tremendous amount at the moment - so I feel I am getting closer to what He wants me to be..
Is sometimes very hard to be patient and let Him do things in His time, tho!

Exerpt from "extravagant WORSHIP" said:
"Do you know what you were born to do? Do you know what that desire is within you?

Psalm 37:4 tells us that God clearly longs to give us the desires of our heart. He longs for it. Desire is such a powerful force in our lives, planted there by God to cause us to follow after our dreams. To direct our lives and propel us toward our God-given destiny. In Psalm 37 it states that as long as we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will be faithful to His promise.

What is the desire within you? Have you allowed that desire to breathe...to find the life that it needs to be realised? Many people struggle with knowing what it is they were born to do, and sometimes we can just make it all too complicated...God doesn't make it hard, we do! Ask yourself these things...what am I gifted at? What do I love to do? Does this desire line up with the Word of God? Can I see it for my life? Will the purpose of my desire build the Kingdom of God?"

Just a little taste of an awesome book.
