The late artist Rich Mullins has a song entitled, “My One Thing,” in which the opening line says: “Everybody I know says they need just one thing, what they really mean is they need one thing more.” How many times do we hear people say things like, “If only I had more money I would be happy,” or “When I find a significant other I will be truly happy.” Yes, this may be true, but it will only be temporarily. After a few months, if that, you will be wanting something else. If you got a brand new car, a few months later the happiness, the joy you got from the car will be gone and your soul will be looking for something else to quench that thirst. Nothing in the world can bring you happiness 24 hours a day, seven days a week—NOTHING! Friends, significant others, family members, whoever, will let you down, money is the root of all evil. Even though it is hard to admit, even though we know what will truly quench our thirst, we avoid it at all cost. Our flesh keeps telling us to try the things of the world to fill this thirst, but we will continue to go back to the well wanting something else, something greater. John 4:13-14: “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.’”

lol toad_ster I did the same thing! posting in wrong forum that is.

Thanks for deleting the old one for me oncewaslost!

I like the message here toad_ster, I agree there's only one thing we need, without God everything else becomes meaningless and we are forever wanting, and never feeling like we have enough.

Putting aside the Spiritual, because it goes without saying, that we need all of that, and putting it on the human level, I can honestly say the only need I have is the Love of my Lady, who is also the Love of my life and my everything. Without her I am but an empty shell! She is my greatest Blessing!

That song had a big impact on me when I was a brand new Christian.

It helped me really think about "how much is enough" and "what am I supposed to do with it all."

Don't get me wrong, not everything in my life is perfect, but compared to how some people live, I've got it all. And I'm not rich by most American standards, but I am by the standard of living of many people of the world. And my focus may not always be on Christ, but he is my touch point, the place where I go to make sense of it all.

This song made me look at what life SHOULD be about, not what the world tells me it is about. Thanks for reminding me of it Toadster!
