The late artist Rich Mullins has a song entitled, My One Thing, in which the opening line says: Everybody I know says they need just one thing, what they really mean is they need one thing more. How many times do we hear people say things like, If only I had more money I would be happy, or When I find a significant other I will be truly happy. Yes, this may be true, but it will only be temporarily. After a few months, if that, you will be wanting something else. If you got a brand new car, a few months later the happiness, the joy you got from the car will be gone and your soul will be looking for something else to quench that thirst. Nothing in the world can bring you happiness 24 hours a day, seven days a weekNOTHING! Friends, significant others, family members, whoever, will let you down, money is the root of all evil. Even though it is hard to admit, even though we know what will truly quench our thirst, we avoid it at all cost. Our flesh keeps telling us to try the things of the world to fill this thirst, but we will continue to go back to the well wanting something else, something greater. John 4:13-14: Jesus answered and said to her, whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.
