  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is worship? why is it neccessary?

I see life as like a gift. If someone gave you a gift for your birthday, would you not thank them? Well God gave us the gift of life, simply because he loves us and I am so greatful for that I WANT to praise Him and worship him.
Not just that, He keeps giving and we keep sinning. But he loves us enough that he gave his only son that we might spend eternal life with him in heaven.
Now I ask you, why wouldn't you want to praise him?!

I guess to be more specific is how do you worship?
Every time you tell yourself or someone else the value of God, His weight or His greatness, it's a kind of worship.

That given, the Old and New Testaments actually describe different kinds of worship that were valid forms that God would accept. The Old Testament has a wider group, but it includes:

Praise to God for His attributes, of which singing and other arts are a part, in heartfelt joy at His blessing on us
Prayer to God in petition of His power and justice
Preaching God's words truthfully to one another
Hearing God's words in a way that strikes at our conscience and our own life with Him
Practicing the sacraments, which God has set up for us to perform and to meditate on.

Worship is a way that we can bless God. Since God is as big and powerful as He is, there aren't too many ways that you can do that. It is an expression of our love to Him, and it must be done with an honest heart.

If you want to learn how to worship, I can think of no better example than the Psalms. Other principles to keep in mind are in Isaiah 29:13 and I Samuel 15:22-23.
