  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is virginity?

I recently read an article about prostitution in Afghanistan. Apparently, many Afghani prostitutes only have anal sex in order to save their virginity for marriage. I don't get it.

What do you consider to be virginity? Are these Afghani "women of the night" virgins in your eyes? For those of you who only plan on marrying a virgin, does virginity only mean traditional intercourse?

someone can be a technical virgin and not be pure of body, mind, or heart. So while virginity is a physical condition, it often has nothing to do with purity. Hopefully someone who has remained a virgin is also trying to stay pure. Trying to bypass the pure factor and doing everything else sexually except have the kind of sex that would negate your "virginity" is kind of pointless. Sex is sex; if it's one kind it's still a kind of sex even if penetration didn't happen.

Hmm... so if any of you reading this are virgins, would you feel more comfortable having sex with someone on your wedding night if they had oral sex but were technical virgin than with somebody who has had traditional intercourse or is it all the same?

Hmmmm . . . I think technical virginity is a sham. Purity comes from within a strong relationship with Christ. I guess it lies ithin the heart. Neither one of these would make me feel more or less comfortable than the other one. I would have know their attitude about sex now and wheter or not they are pursuing purity.

sex is sex. I would prefer to marry a virgin who doesn't try to get around what is sex and what isn't and how much he could get away with, but even if he has a past- if he's repented and is now living in purity and not trying to get around what is sex and what isn't and how much he can get away with that is what matters to me.

My own definition of virgin: Anybody who has not intentionally had sex (vaginal, anal, oral, manual... you name it) with another person. In that light, "technical virgins" are definitely not virgins, and rape victims retain their virginity. I think intent is the important factor.

I'd rather she had neither. If she'd had oral but not vaginal, I'd count my blessings, I suppose. Of course if she hadn't totally repented of that, then I wouldn't marry her.

A factor in this is I don't really know whether I'd want oral sex in the marriage or not, and I don't think I need to get more graphic than that. It would be something to talk about with the fiance, and her having that experience would definitely make it more weird.

Virginity is a heart issue. There are many people who have not had traditional intercourse but have thought about it. They are guilty of sexual sin and in God's eyes, they aren't virgins. That is why Jesus says you don't even have to get into the bed of a woman to have sex with her. All you have to do is think about it, and He considers it done.

He considers it sin, but I have a hard time believing that anyone would bond equally with someone whom they have merely fantasized over vs. someone they actually had intercourse with. Besides, I have yet to hear of a person making another person pregnant by remote.

Still doesn't make it any less of a sin. There is just less serious repercussion in the natural, but if you break one part of the law then you guilty of breaking all of it. Sin is sin and the wages of sin is death.
