What is vexing the Holy Spirit?

Perhaps the reason you don't understand is because you are looking for the 'fear of the Lord' aspect that is not the 'vexation of the Spirit' aspect. Prolly a different topic altogether ya think?

Another way of hindering the work of God:

What is the negative factor in uncooperation with God? Isn't it to side with His enemy?

2 Cor. 4:4

The "Stronger than he"—the Lord Christ—is then, by the Holy Spirit, the Overcomer Who is greater in us than he that is in the world, by we in Him and He in us, we can overcome the schemes of the devil. As we maintain our position of abiding in Him and He in us, as dead unto sin and resurrected with Him. That is our position in the resurrected life.

Rom 4:11
alive unto God

but the natural cannot contend with the supernatural because satan blinds the gospel.

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

By bringing each thing to Christ, each thought captive, step by step, those things that exalt themselves against the knowledge of Christ are overcome.

In prayer Jesus sought to keep Peter safe from the sifting of the evil one and agreement with Him on this prayer for us will be effective as coming from our great high priest who prays not just for those who were with Him but for all who believe in His name.

Matthew 26:4
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

We all have our posts that we should be at. The angels fell because they left their posts. Leaving our posts not only takes us out from the umbrella of protection but it also leaves God lacking in His area of influence.

Be aware of the wiles of the devil

1 Corinthians 14:15
So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.

Because the Word is the sword, as part of the armour, have the Word deep within your heart, and you will do much to make the enemy flee, rather than becoming an enemy of God yourself.

Prayer is not only for self, but it must also be for God and against the enemy to be effective prayer.

Luke 18:8 has always been a troublesome scripture in my mind because it seems impossible that there will be no faith on earth when He returns, but Jesus definately saw the possibility. The Holy Spirit does give the power to fight but it's in cooperation that it's found. I've been studying some on spiritual warfare the last few days ( as part of an ongoing study) and it's really something to keep in mind as the time draws near. Thanks for that.

I've mentioned in other threads that I once saw Jesus as meek but never in the power of the risen Lord as to His warriorlike self. That was a mistake and it hindered God's work in me. It took a long time to come to the realization but in so doing it has gained a great power in my life in not only recognizing the workings of satan around me, but also some power over him in my life.
That imo is the great overcoming that will prevent us from seeing satan loosed again in our life at the end of the ages.

As AnticipateHisComing pointed out there is a problem in the church/body today. It's not that most have turned from God but they have instead become lax in spiritual warfare.

These are the people that have known the baptism into death and subsequent cessation of fleshly activity.

Surrender to God has lapsed into "passivity", or passive endurance of everything.
They have only the view of the Lamb, and not the Lion-LAMB—
the Lamb who submits to death,
but not the LION-LAMB who triumphs over the devil.

These people must arise out of their passive condition, and in the power of the Spirit go forward into aggressive warfare against the powers of darkness. They must use their renewed will in active co-operation with God.

They must take the aggressive with victory-prayer against every hindrance that the devil puts in their way.
They should march forward claiming the victory of the Cross over all the power of the enemy.

Its a subjective degree of spiritual life and not a positional one that even a babe in Christ has. As babes we're to become familiar with the cross in the gospel teachings, that again brings it back to the responsibility of the church in proper teachings (see previous page) not to hinder/vex God's work.

Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
