Some Adventist say rest, and sleep all day, some say go to church and sleep at church, some say go and convert by passing out pamphlets and magazines and others truly understand the purpose of the Sabbath and God is pleased......

What is the Sabbath for, and do we understand its purpose.........

What do we do on the Sabbath and why do we do it?

John 5:12-18
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? 13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. 15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole. 16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. 18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because HE HAD NOT ONLY BROKEN THE SABBATH, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.

The way the OP is phrased it seems you believe that the purpose of the is other than the things you mentioned. I believe that the purpose of the Sabbath was to celebrate the deliverance of the Hebrews from Egyptian captivity.

No, I think it was a little more than that....

God loves you!

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

To find the purpose of an institution you need to go back to when it was introduced. The Sabbath was introduced when the Hebrews were delivered from Egypt.

No, I think it goes back a little further than that as the words are "Remember the sabbath..." so it was something they already had....

There is another meaning and based on the fact that the Sabbath is never mentioned until the Exodus this other meaning is more likely. They had spent 400 years in slavery laboring every day of the week. To them this was normative behavior. They would have to remember to take one day off.

It was mentioned at Creation, but lets get back to the purpose of the Sabbath, what is it and do we fulfill it...

Either you are studying or you want to communicate propaganda. There is no mention of the Sabbath at Creation. Let's not read into the Bible what is not there.

I think this is what causes the problem, its clear from the very onset of creation what God was doing by giving us the seventh day as a day of rest and holy. This is why you lose sight of the purpose and reason for the Sabbath, I am sorry but I dont do propagada, I work it through as I read it, and creation makes clear that the seventh day was set aside for a special purpose......

You have forgotten that Genesis was not written as the Creation happened. It was written a very long time after the Creatiion. Do you think that at the end of the sixth day of creation God had to stop because He ran up on Sabbath hours? We need to be faithful to the text and to reality, regardless of what our doctrinal positions tell us.

Well, lets accept the Bible is exactly as it happened, and creation is as written, and if so, what is the purpose of the Sabbath....

Now, this is an interesting and disappointing approach to truth.

Well, how can I even get to the Sabbath if you deny the validity of what is written in scripture. All of the Bible can then be called into question and declared to be written wrong, or by people after the fact, or they were fuzzy from strong drink or some other issue. We have to start at basic understanding, and one of them is the bible is true as written..........

If you cannot accept the word of God as given, then were do we go from there........

And the truth is that the Sabbath is not mentioned once in all of the book of Genesis. It is wrong to try to twist the text so your presuppositions can fit.

God at Creation clearly lays out the seventh day for a special holy purpose and sets it aside for Sabbath for man, now if you want to discuss the purpose of the Sabbath.........

Repeating an untruth a million times does not turn it into the truth and insisting that a falsehood is the truth reflects very poorly on you to any objective thinker. Ye shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.

The Sabbath was given to celebrate deliverance from Egyptian bondage. Today it serves as a celebration of deliverance from the bondage of sin.

Well if you cannot accept what is in the Bible, then were do you go from there. Everything else can then be thrown away by whim or wish from man, where do you stop....

Then there is the question that must be asked, for what purpose do you throw it away, what do you gain.......
