So, I'm going through a diffucult time, and in the middle of the night, God gave me this verse to pray over my situation:
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
Bascially, this is my prayer: "God replace the spirit of fear within me (or the person I'm praying for) with the spirit of power, the spirit of love and the spirit of a sound mind."
But, looking further into the verse today, I noticed that different translations have very different ideas of what a sound mind is. For some it's discipline, for others its translated "self control" and for still others it's "instruction." All of those have different meanings, in my mind.
Then I found an article by Matt Walsh that interprets "sound mind" as a mind that have been delivered or saved, revived, rescued, salvaged or protected. So, it seems like it could be rendered "The spirit of a safe mind." All of which is encouraging, but I want to dig deeper. Please discuss.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
