Scrupulosity is the unfortunate condition of seeing sin where there is none and seeing mortal sin where it is venial sin. It is a cross. And I think that a number of saints suffered from it at times.
maybe there were just trying to cover all of their bases (all of the sinful things they've done, and some they hadn't realized), and they probally overdid a bit too much. But it can't hurt to careful and thorough!;)

Trust me on this one--the condition IS a cross. If this is the condition, it is not just "overdoing it a bit" or being "careful and thorough". (Just imagine, thinking that all the time one offends the one loved no matter how much one might try not to, and having to repeatedly go through, in one's mind, Commandments, precepts, beatitudes and all sorts of "possibilities" plus the conditions of a mortal sin which EVERY action becomes. There is no peace, and it can easily lead to a separation from the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist and to despair.) Priests know of this condition. And it cannot be self-diagnosed since normally we all tend to make allowances for ourselves and IMO we all can fool ourselves too easily. This definitely needs the counsel of a priest in Confession.

And what is it called if you see a mortal sin where there is no sin?

If the priest determines that the person indeed has scrupulosity, then the sufferer views all sin, temptations, and even no sin at all as mortal sin that separates him from the love of God. (Yeah, I know, nothing can separate us from the love of God, but...) The sufferer must really depend upon his Confessor. There's even a group devoted to helping such people--it's called Scrupulous Anonymous.

:prayer:O Lord, I pray you will help those souls of yours, who are too scrupulous concerning their sins, and i pray you'll give them peace of mind, and for you to let them see your love for them, and that not all they view as sinful, is fact sinful. And that You love. Amen.:crossrc:

:sorry: It's important to take advice here and be obediant; my spiritual coach, a nun, has told me a few times that I tend to be scrupulos, and in which way... I listen to her and follow her advice. I got a bit of the same impression from my last confession also - so I am at guard... But still, I'm more afraid of not caring enough about fighting sin...
