What is the difference between "redemption" and "salvation"?

Redemption: 1. the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.

"God's redemption of his people"

a thing that saves someone from error or evil.

"his marginalization from the Hollywood jungle proved to be his redemption"

2.the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt.

synonyms: retrieval, recovery, reclamation, repossession, return
"the redemption of their possessions"

exchange, cashing in, conversion
"the redemption of credit vouchers"

paying off, paying back, discharge, clearing, honoring
"the redemption of the mortgage"

fulfillment, carrying out, discharge, performing, honoring, meeting
"the redemption of his obligations"

Salvation: deliverance from sin and its consequences, believed by Christians to be brought about by faith in Christ.

synonyms: redemption, deliverance, reclamation
"salvation by way of repentance"

antonyms: damnation

preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, or loss.
"they try to sell it to us as economic salvation"

synonyms: lifeline, preservation; means of escape, help, saving, savior
"that conviction was her salvation"

a source or means of being saved from harm, ruin, or loss.

noun: one's salvation; plural noun: one's salvation's
"his only salvation was to out-fly the enemy"

Those are the dictionary definitions, but what's the difference?

Opinions? Thoughts?

God Bless!

I think that while one reads it should be noticed that Redemption is the broad term for all that God has provided for mankind; i.e., that deity came down to man in the Person of Jesus, the Christ of God; the Trinity as God among us in the Father --Jehovah-God, and the Holy Spirit is the Father and the Son manifested in the "born again" believer (see John 14:23). Also it speaks of salvation in Christ, Heaven and Hell and all judgments; the return of Jesus Christ to claim His Bride (the Church), and later His reign here for a thousand years when He comes down with His Bride.

Salvation can be seen as specifically the saving grace of God in Jesus, the Christ and the "new birth" (note John 3 and 1 Jn. 5:10-12). Saving of a soul is not in just trying to follow the teachings of God and acknowledging deity, but receiving the Savior and being devoted to Him. It is required to have any part in God.

Redemption - this word means to be claimed. An example would be how you can redeem your free gift at the counter. You have to claim it. We are redeemed by God when we are salvaged.

Salvation - this word means to save and repair. Look at the junk yard. If you want to salvage an old car you redeem it and then you clean it up.

So God redeems (claims) us, and repairs us (salvation). We are claimed and saved at the same time.

Isn't the process of cleaning it (us) up "sanctification", and claiming us, salvation or redemption though?

Sanctification is the act or process of acquiring sanctity, of being made or becoming holy.

Salvation (Latin salvatio; Greek sōtēria; Hebrew yeshu'ah) is being saved (or redeemed) or protected from harm[1] or being saved or delivered from some dire situation.[2] In religion, salvation is stated as the saving of the soul from sin and its consequences.[3]

I'm confused?

God Bless!

Jesus does not repair our life of sin the way you would repair a car! If you want to use a car as the analogy he first revs the engine until it explodes and then smashes all the windows in and rips all the doors off. He then loads into a crusher until it is flattened like a pancake and then its off to the furnace to burn it into powder. With the residue that's left he recreates a brand new car better than anything we have ever seen.

Rehabilitation is not the Christian way. Jesus always taught that death precedes the new birth. The old man has to be crucified before he can create the new man. Spiritual death is a painful process but afterwards it produces the peaceable fruit of righteousness.

Redemption and sanctification works hand in hand. You can not be salvaged unless you are redeemed.

Jesus paid the price to redeem us through the cross. The previous owner has to hand us over to the buyer. That is happens when we accept Him as our God. We are then in His hands. Once we are in His hands we have been saved... but sanctification is a process of taking on more of Him and less of us.

This is why the Bible speaks of growing in Christ, and setting ourselves aside. There is even a verse which says we should consider our bodies a living sacrifice. It is because we are to be sanctified through this.

The moment we accept Jesus we have a new spirit in us. We are in some ways already sanctified and as holy as we need to be. But because we still have this flesh to deal with we must bring it under subjection.

So with all of that confusing stuff said, let me tell you the short and sweet of it. We are redeemed and sanctified the moment we accept Jesus. But we need to let that shine through by laying down our flesh daily.
