  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If sin is the transgression of the law, define transgression of the law. Is this the original and only sin?

Sin = transgression of the Law.
Sin = the breaking of God's laws or commandments.

How do you think the Bible defines sin?
Here are some of the ways:

"Whatever does not proceed from faith is sin" .. Romans 14:23b

So we sin (as you said) when we transgress the Law by doing what we should not do (sins of commission), but we also sin whenever we fail to obey God by not doing what we know we should be doing (sins of omission).

We also sin if our otherwise righteous actions are done w/o regard for a weaker brother, or a non-Christian .. e.g. Romans 14:20-23.

Romans 14:23 is a good one and is often missed or not thought about much. Thank you for bringing it up. I think we as Christians should go about our day in loving God and loving others via the faith in everything we do. When we wake up to make coffee, or to clean the house, or to pay the bills, or to go to our jobs, these things all should be done with the glory of God in mind as a part of the faith. They are minor things... yes; But we do have to live in this world to serve God via by loving God and loving others (Spreading the gospel, helping the poor, feeding the sheep, etc.).
