  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is religion?

So if God can sum religion up in one verse surely I should not need to write a ten page article?
I can baffle about this for a long time but I choose not to.
Let’s get to it and answer this real fast.

What is religion?
Right now in the west religion is this.

Love Jesus, love others and love yourself, with a few exceptions here and there. It really comes down to how you feel and what you want do or consider worthy to do. For example you might not watch Blade three because it is unworthy to you but at the same time your fine to watch Walt Disney because that is harmless.
Well that reeks of ignorance.

You must use the three L’s, LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! and your in!

With this there is Sun day worship which involves 30 minutes of praise, 10 minutes of money giving, 20 minutes of Church news, another hour of ministry from usually the same man and do not forget to dress well.

If this man is wound up into much false doctrine along with the rest of the congregation then you have a cry and find another church that follows the same lines with more truth, hopefully.

To love others is pretty easy, forgive and forget.
Love would involve kind acts too but who are you doing these kind acts too. Family and Friends?

“for if you love them which love you, what reward have ye?”

Are you giving $20 to a homeless drunk in good faith they will not waste it on more alcohol? Or is this foolish? According to the counsel of man it us but what does God say about it?

Some religions will put you in bondage, Seventh Day Adventists drive Sabbath bondage and the exclusive brethren drive a separate yourself from the world bondage.

I think a lot of churches are in bondage to the ways of this world. It is obvious they let corruption seep in.
During the week the idea of love is upheld by the people who go to that church.
I think the truth is, we all dive into a week of money making.

Should we not dive into a week of money giving, self-sacrifice and prayer instead? Rev 18 is controversial but I think the great city of Babylon is the world.

Read the whole chapter and why is this being said at verse 4
“come out of her my people that ye be not partakers of her sins.”

Who is this being said too? The Sons of God of course, that’s the Saints.

So what does God say about religion? Is it Sunday worship with wafer biscuits and concentrated juice once a month?

Jms 1 27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Well that does not resemble Sunday worship one bit.

What about the Church? Well one day I am going to write an article on that and I am telling you now, it is not a brick building and certainly is not once a week gathering.

God's agape love is the perfect expression of his character and much more than a warm 'n fuzzy that is on display in most churches. God's character can be found in the bible from Genesis to Revelation and is described in detail in Exodus 34. The greek language had four words for love where English only has one. Most Christians have 'phileo' love which is human and faulty while God's perfect love is 'agape'. The exchange between Jesus and Peter at the end of John in chap. 21 makes much more sense in greek. Jesus asked Peter if he loved him three times and the first two times Jesus used the word 'agape'. The third time Jesus used 'phileo' and Peter was grieved because all he had to offer was human love and not the perfect love of God. Peter was humbled at this point in his life and knew that perfect love was the goal that every Christian will strive for but never attain.

Fozzy I do not agree with ya on the we have to know Greek to properly understand Gods word, sorry...

It is obvious we do not have Agape..
Not all of uss know Greek so we have to rely on God to give us understanding, which he does.

I didn't really mean that we need to know greek just to understand that when love is mentioned in the bible it can be phileo or agape and this does change the meaning of the verses especially in John 21.

Religion speaks of works, and God wants devotion. It isn't just about love, love, love, but RECEIVE, RECEIVE, RECEIVE the Savior ---the Lord Jesus, the Christ of God. That is where we learn true love, eternal hope, blessings, and can then show charity to all mankind.
