  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Which is more important to Christ?

1. Obeying his commands

OR

2. Obeying his commands

Thank you for that interesting combination of choices, but please stay on the topic of the OP which is centered on other criteria. You do have the option of starting your own thread.

If you can answer my question and explain why, then I can answer yours in the same way.

If you can answer my question and explain why, then I can answer yours in the same way.

I will explain why I asked this question and the reasoning behind the two choices.

After a person who has been saved by Christ and is one of Christ's own/a child of God, I am trying to guage if more people think it is important to bring new people into the kingdom of God (as he commanded before He died to spread the gospel) or if people think that their own sanctification is more important.

I will not answer your question because I don't think that a person should come on to a thread that requests a limited and choice of answers (which none of the above or fill in your own) are NOT options and derail someone else's thread. So, it is in that regard that I am not responding to your question because it is not this threads topic and I am not incouraging others to derail my thread either. As I stated, you may start your own thread.

I was not derailing your thread by offering my own options, but rather I was pointing out that your options boiled down to being the same option. When we make make disciples, we are obeying Jesus' commands and when we avoid sin we are also obeying Jesus' commands, so if we have to make a decision between obeying his commands and obeying his commands, then we should obey his commands.

Correct, it's not an either/or option, we are expected to do both. One cannot get rid of sin until they come to Christ and when one comes to Christ, then sin begins to decrease. As Paul said, "I must decrease so that HE may increase" (John 3:30) One is not more important than the other, they are both equal in importance.

I do see your point.

My point, as I stated when I responded to Seyong the first time is NOT that both of the options are not important, but as the OP says which is MOST important. And not what is most important to me (from a humans point of view) but in says 'to Jesus', which is the person choosing which Jesus says is more important.

I do find in general that whenever I state that I believe something is 'more important' than something else, that the response is always seen as I am saying that one thing is not important. Maybe it's our English language, but just because one thing is stated as more important, does not mean that the other thing is not important, both can be and are very important which is why I sought out other people's thoughts on this.

Maybe many think it's cute to be snippy. I am quite over it myself.

However, I must say I am always dissapointed because people come along and start making assumptions about what a thread is saying, and don't find out what is the desired end result. I hate to think that I've been reading the Bible almost daily for 20 years only to find out that we should 'obey his commands'. Lot's of deep thought here, wow, glad I asked! With each of you 'liking' the others deep response, I can see God's own are ready for the weekend and have checked out early.

Since Listening to the Lord is seen by both of you to be the most important thing that Jesus wants from us this is not going to be probably a very deep conversation. Maybe another area of the forum has deeper thoughts into what Jesus stressed to us with more looking into Jesus actual words would be nice.

So, to get a better balance than to only seek the limited 'Spirit Filled' community, I'm going to post also to the Conservatives forum. They do tend to take the Word more seriously.

On second thought, I think I will just close this thread and go right to the Bible believing community itself (not that Spirit Filled doesn't believe the Bible) but they take it much more as nice thoughts. I even used bold and underline to try to be clear, so it is obvious that no one cares why the thread was created. I won't be starting anymore threads in this sub-forum anytime soon because it's a waste of my time.

Thanks for your input, I'll close the thread now.

Please do not respond to this thread, it is CLOSED.
