What is it with dogs? I was taking my faithful pup on a stroll today and like always she runs over to whatever is the most disgusting thing she can find. (This may include but it is not limited to: rotten fish, dead things, poop, unrecognizable offal, etc.) Now I know that a dog’s ability to smell is way better than mine, but this makes me think she should only be more put off by "Eck", not attracted to it. Her only dilemma seems to be should she eat it, pee on it, or roll in it. One of her favorite pastimes is to chase deer (my wife now calls them “Pez Dispensers”) and then eat up what she scared out of them.
Any insights?

Possibly how they keep their gut bacteria in good order. It can play a significant role in good health, something often overlooked when someone has been on strong antibiotics. They don't just kill the bad bacteria but the good bacteria also. Some people have remained chronically ill after antibiotics and were only restored to health after receiving a poo transplant, basically getting someone else's poo introduced to their lower digestive system.
