What is intelligence, design, cause?

INTELLIGENT
To a metaphysical naturalist, a human brain is simply a mechanism. A brain does things just like a volcano does things. What makes a painting intelligent and a lava flow unintelligent?

DESIGN
For design to work there must be a goal. Nature has no goal. We humans believe we have goals and design things, but are we actually any different than moss growing on a tree? Does the moss have a goal to grow on the shady side of the tree? Does the moss design?

CAUSE
Imagine a cannon ball traveling on a trajectory and impacting on a castle wall. What is the cause of the impact on the castle wall? An equation defines every point in the trajectory. Does the past cause the future or does the future cause the past? Of course there is an arrow of time connected to entropy and so forth, but it seems to me that "cause" loses all meaning when we apply to a reality before the universe existed. The First Cause argument doesn't work for this reason IMO.

So those are my thoughts. I'm curious what others think.

Completely disagree that nature has no goal. The goal of nature is to sustain man on this earth for an appointed time.

DESIGN:

Is God necessary for our existence?

What are the arguments for God as Creator of Man?

My favorite is the "teleological argument"...

"The Great Designer God"...DESIGN infers a DESIGNER!

"DESIGN" = my definition! =
the scientifically observed universe in all complex life forms shows empirical evidence of ORDER (vs randomness) and PATTERNS, (vs chaos).

His invisible attributes,
His eternal power and
(His) divine nature,
have been clearly SEEN,
being understood through what has been MADE,

Causality (also referred to as causation, or cause and effect) is the agency or efficacy that connects one process (the cause=GOD) with another process or state (the effect=ALL CREATION), where >1.the first is understood to be partly responsible for the second, and >2. the second is dependent on the first.

I have been away from the forum for a long time and was notified of you post, which is excellent.

This may not be relevant to nature, but are you aware that the CBM mapping has placed the Earth as the center of the Universe? They having been trying to disprove their own evidence since it has been recognized. Lawrence Krauss, the fellow that fought against "Intelligent Design" in the Ohio school system, made this statement a number of years ago.

Lawrence Krauss is quoted as follows in the referenced Edge.org article:[4]

"But when you look at CMB map, you also see that the structure that is observed, is in fact, in a weird way, correlated with the plane of the earth around the sun. Is this Copernicus coming back to haunt us? That's crazy. We're looking out at the whole universe. There's no way there should be a correlation of structure with our motion of the earth around the sun — the plane of the earth around the sun — the ecliptic. That would say we are truly the center of the universe."

If earth is the center of the Universe, then man truly is special.
