Do we each have a unique purpose which God has given us? Or is there one purpose we are suppose to all be working towards?

John 6:28-29 "Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

If you'll do this, the rest will fall in line...

Just read all of John 6 :) or maybe even all of John :D Maybe you should just read the entire Bible lol

There are many different things that God has planned for us.

Some of which is named by these people here.
Sanctified, love God, love each other and edify one another.

There are probably more, but this is for everyone.

And then there are going to be things that God has planned just for you. Then there are plans that He may have for you and some others that you know, but not everyone that you know.

You will learn more as you grow in Christ, on what God has in store for you.

It seems like everyone makes it so easy by throwing scripture at you. But lets get down to it. What is God's purpose in YOUR life. Not what the scripture tells you. In your day to day, go to work, feed the kids, stare at a computer, go to bed and start over again tomorrow life.

Mine? I'm still searching!! It's a struggle. For me, it's hard to determine God's direction (or purpose) in my life. Maybe it's me not listening...maybe it's me hiding from what HE wants. At times I feel as if Christians answer every question w/ a quote from scripture. At times that might be warented, but come on!!! Let's get down to REAL LIFE application! In the day to day life of this messed up World you can't just throw scripture at everything that comes.

My 2 cents....only worth about 1/2.

God bless -

Atleast your honest I will give you that.

But I have to totally disagree with you bro. The bible is as real as you can get. It applys to more of your life than ANYTHING you can think of, than you can dream of, than you can hope for.

I wish Christians would answer every question w/scripture. The messed up world of the day to day life is that way for one reason, we don't believe God's word, the bible. Whatever problems your having, God has the answer.

It sounds like to me, that you  are unhappy with the things you have sown into your life. The seeds that you sowd yesturday are thorns today. Well start taking that bible and applying it to your life and sow something that you will like, tomorrow.

Anthony, our purpose is to know and love God.

God has a general will for all of us to follow. For example, loving your neighbor, making disciples, the ten commandments, etc.

God also has a specific will for our lives that we can know by reading the bible, praying, and listening. God has given you gifts that he wants you to use. God also speaks. So consider the giftedness he has given you, and pray, and you will know his will.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Revelation 4:11
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Romans 12
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

1 Thessalonians 4:3
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

I agree with all of what has been said.

So, where do to so many people get the "special purpose" concept, that God has a special assignment for each one of us?

We all have the same special purpose: To accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Anything else you do has no bearing on whether you see the kingdom of God or not. Once you accept Jesus you will begin to show the fruits of the Spirit (you can't help it) but we are not here to perform works as some sort of mission in order to gain entry into heaven.

However, God has equipped all of us with special talent and skills to be used to accomplish His will. We are to use these abilities to glorify God. Again, This is not to say that these works are to be your main goal in life.

I believe that sometime we form the opinion that if we're not doing some "great" thing according to the world or the church that being faithful in our day to day living is meaningless.

Being faithful to whatever God has sent our way is a great thing in the eyes of God.  It does not matter what other people think.

We can start by being faithfull to God.  Faithful to walk the way He tells us.  Letting Him mold and conform us into His image.  Such as kindness, mercy, humbleness, honesty, etc.  All these qualities formed in our life will have great impact on every person we come in contact with. Your boss, your spouse, your children, etc.  Whether we see it or not.

As you just remain faithful to Him, you can trust that if He has something beyond that for you to do, He is faithful to make sure it happens.  Not necessarily in our time, but in His.
