What is Godless Chatter?

Anything that is unbiblical or just plain ignorance. We have many who claim to be Christians and even many who claim to be leaders who are teaching unbiblical and ignorant interpretations of the Bible.

Latest poll of over 6000 pastors showed that over half do not believe that God can do miracles today or that you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God. They teach gospels that are less than the truth.

Please study, pray and ask God for confirmation before following any man or teaching of man. We are to follow God.

Their is a lot of Godless chatter in this forum.

The NIV here calls it "godless chatter." The ESV interprets the Greek as "irreverent babble." The NASB: "worldly and empty chatter." The New King James: "shun profane and idle babblings."

I think this can take many forms, the biggies that pop up in my mind are gossip and back-biting and professing truths which aren't Biblical.

The entire chapter leading up to verse 16 speaks of those who twist the teachings of Christ into a message of prosperity in order to get rich. This is what Paul refers to as "godless chatter".

Here are the first 5 verses:

1 Timothy 6

1. LET ALL who are under the yoke as bond servants esteem their own [personal] masters worthy of honor and fullest respect, so that the name of God and the teaching [about Him] may not be brought into disrepute and blasphemed.

2. Let those who have believing masters not be disrespectful or scornful [to them] on the grounds that they are brothers [in Christ]; rather, they should serve [them all the better] because those who benefit by their kindly service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these duties.

3. But if anyone teaches otherwise and does not assent to the sound and wholesome messages of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which is in agreement with godliness,

4. He is puffed up with pride and stupefied with conceit, woefully ignorant. He has a morbid fondness for controversy and disputes and strife about words, which result in envy and jealousy, quarrels and dissension, abuse and insults and slander, and base suspicions,

5. And protracted wrangling and wearing discussion and perpetual friction among men who are corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, who imagine that godliness or righteousness is a source of profit [a moneymaking business, a means of livelihood]. From such withdraw.

Say someone was a worshipper of Alah.. and he gave you advice, or was preaching Muslim philosophies.. that would be an example.

It is always good to read the entire surrounding context when it isn't very clear what something means, as singpeace noted above. This is just good exegesis.

As for the comment about this forum containing lots of Godless chatter, look at the nature of that statement and try to find a way to show that IT is anything but Godless chatter once you find the lack of Godliness, goodness and love in it.

Look up the meaning of Love in Corinthians and what is does and try to find a way to justify remarks like that. You can't.

It is also useful, when you find things that do not seem to have one strict meaning, to ask God what he would have you take away from it. What his current purpose for that scripture is in your life.

What I Believe God revealed to me is: I Believe Godless chatter is talk about anything not good. But I Believe it's ok to talk about bad things with good motives, such as if your trying to help your friend get off drugs, or stop him from watching porn.
