What is 'Army'?

What is it that makes us part of God's big plan, rather than just the result of a denominational squabble? What do people feel are the things that make us distinctive?

Personally, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss denominational squabbles as not being part of God's big plan.

I see what you mean. I wasn't trying to be contrary about it. I just think that if we believe that the Army was raised up by God as part of His plan, then it naturally follows that the denominational split with the Methodist Church which caused the Army to come into being, must also have been part of this plan.


I think that it is to our credit that in 140 years we have not (yet) had a denominational split within the Army. We have our differences, sure, but we stick in there and work them out.

Okay. So back to OP. What makes 'Army' army< rather than any other branch of the church?

This is quite a sweeping generalisation, and I will try and answer more fully later, but for now I would say that what makes us different is the fact that we recognise the need to wage war on both a physical as well as spiritaual level. We will not meet the spiritual need if we neglect the physical need.
