I am considering attending a Sunday service at The Salvation Army 28 miles away, what can I expect there?

The Sunday School Service is not likely much different than the service in any Evangelical Church.

The Morning Service is different in that there is usual a brass band that plays with the song service. You usually have a good mixture of folks wearing the S.A. uniforms and those not. Most of the Salvation Army churches I have been to have been friendly enough. Beyond that the church services are not much different than any Evangelical Church.

Anyone is welcome.

You will find a great variation of styles and routines accross various Army corps and these will vary greatly from country to country as well.

A typical Salvation Army meeting in Britain could well look like this.

1. Opening song.
2. Prayer Chorus
3. Prayer.
4. Scripture reading
5. Songster piece (our chior)
6. Song (testimony time?)
7. Offering and announcements
8. Song.
9. Band
10. Message
11. Song (Alter call)
12. Closing song.
13. Benediction

The price of gasoline has risen dramatically in the past two weeks. I will visit the church when the price of gas goes down.:sigh:

I hate to have to say this because I go through a lot of fuel, but the price isn't going to go down.

Ever.

It will only continue to rise.

It's going to be $3.00 a gallon here very soon, and a trip to the store is 12 miles round trip.
From what I gather that's not a heck of a lot compared to England, but let's face it, America is in the dark ages when it comes to fuel efficient cars and public transporation. As far as I am concerned America is in the dark ages, period, right now, until George Bush leaves office.

Last time I filled up (about 3 days ago) I paid 95.9p per litre for diesel (about £4.22 per gallon).

The BBC are listing the £/$ rate at $1.74 at this time.

That would make a gallon of petrol around $7.36 based on UK prices.

It is a 15 mile round trip to the supermarket for us.

I have a 110 mile round trip to work each day.

Between two of us we use around £80 of fuel per week (about $140).

On top of that we have to pay about £360 per year for road taxes for the two cars (About $630).

Dark Ages? You guys don't know how well off you are:D :D :D :D :D
