What is a deist????

I have noticed that some people have the symbol of deist as their religios choice. Can some of you perhaps explain what this is??? I am curios..this is a belief I have never heard of before. I will also look it up and read about it but i think it would be more interesting to hear personal points of view on it.

"Deist" is a blanket term for someone who believes in an entity that created the universe, usually in a very rudimentary state, then basically left town, leaving the universe to develop and evolve on its own according to natural laws.
