• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

First off, I'd like to say that this will be a hypothetical question. Ok, now on to the actual question. Everything you have faith in, your religion, your spirituality, what would you do if you found it none of it was true? Actual facts, not theories or beliefs, that PROVE that the faith isn’t real. This goes for everyone; Christians, Pagans, Satanist, Atheist, Buddhist, etc. Personally, I’d probably go into denial about it for a while. But after that, my faith would probably be replaced with something else.

Like I said, this is a hypothetical question. Please do not let this turn into a fight.

I think that I would be ok with it. I feel like if I live the life that my beliefs suggest, then I would have lived a fulfilling life. I would have stayed away from harming others the best that I can. I would have stayed away from harming myself the best that I can. And I would have left the Earth in a better place the best that I can. I don't have the same kind of faith that is described in the Christian tradition so it is tough to use that word.

I would then most likely become a friendly christian who struggles with his faith.....but wait a minute, I'm that already.

My understanding is that if life was discovered on Mars that no one in the Vatican would lose any sleep, it isn't an issue when the whole creator concept of God is addressed.

well, there is that joke that I have heard on this forum before with a protestant, a catholic and a mormon standing at the gates of heaven. (or something along those lines) and then Paul? says that only the Mormon gets into heaven as the true religions. I know that I am ruining the joke but....hey...who knows?

I don't know what I would do. Probably cry for a long time. I love the Goddess soooooooooo much. But there is always a chance that I am wrong. what does it hurt having a belief? the worse thing that could happen is that i would just rot in the earth, and even then i would be content.

It depends on the disproof. If the disproof just disproves what I believe, then I dont think I would care too much, as the parts of my beliefs that could be disproven I don't hang on to as being too important. Which is mainly my atheism.

Now if the disproof came in the form of proof for another religion, I also wouldn't have a problem as long as it wasn't one of the religions I don't like, like fundementalist christianity or fundementalist islam, etc.

I think just get over it and find something else or maybe just give up religion. I don't think I would be too worried about it, because before the 'proof' I wouldn't have known whether my religion was 'true' or not 'true', therefore, by knowing my religion could just be explained by something else, I could learn from my mistake and move on.

Well, Pichu, my faith is founded in a trust in God -- the God who spoke through Jesus of Nazareth.

And just that. I don't found it in a belief in the accuracy of the Bible -- I think it's fairly accurate as what it purports to be -- an anthology of writings, including story, fable, historical reportage, polemic writings, prophetic writings (not prediction but telling forth the word of God, if you pay attention to what a prophet's job really was), etc. But finding out that any given Bible passage was not accurate would not throw me. It's expressed in the teachings of the Episcopal Church, but no single element of this is something that is a mandatory foundation for my belief in God.

You see, I know Him. He's a real and present force in my life, communicating with me through His people, His written word, His gentle guidance in my heart. And that's something you cannot disprove.

If it was absolutely proven.
Which I do not see how it can be be proven Yes or no.
I would go on living my life knowing I would die and that would be the end.

I would live till I die.

My feeling is that most people go through crises from time to time that challenge their belief systems ....Sometimes when this happens it is necessary for further spiritual growth.

All of us can be challenged with doubts and uncertainty...We should not feel alone in this. The greatest saints have been challenged and beset by doubts.

The soul needs spiritual nourishment. If we deprive it unknowingly we can cause it to waste away.

When this happens I usually find that i have not been reading the Writings or Scriptures very much and get distracted somehow or i have not been practising my devotions as I should.

We also allow ourselves to be exposed to worldly things and begin to forget how essential the spiritual life is.

So regular reading of the scriptures...deepening in their meanings as well as constant prayer will strengthen the spiritual life.

God bless us.

you cant proof there's no santa claus either.
rofl hahaha, ok ok now in my school we had this speaker who came to prove that santa claus was fake and the way that we (as christians) celebrate christmas and here are some of the things he said...
1. he would need 10000 reindeer just to pull the sled w/ the weight of all the toys
2. the reindeer would have to be going faster than the speed of light which would cause the reindeer to burst into flames with the pure energy of going so fast (hmm that would be interesting to see flaming reindeer)
3. santa claus would have to visit 1000 homes PER SECOND

lol this was the weirdest chapel i had ever sat through and those are only a few of the things he said
