  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What have you learnt from the Bible ?

Hey Everyone just thought I would share what I have learnt lately and also look forward to reading what everyone is learning from the Word of God .

In Genesis 4 we see two brothers Cain and Abel who gave offering up to the Lord.
The key points for me personally are that when we come before the Lord we are to give everything unto the Lord spiritually not just out of duty. Cain offered up religion and this was not pleasing to the Lord where as Abel gave by faith.
Hebrews 4:11 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
Interestingly Cain was angered by God being displeased in which God even counseled Cain asking why are you angered? & why has your countenance fallen? God then warned Cain of the power of sin and that Cain can choose to live by faith or be consumed by his sin.
Gen 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee [shall be] his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Cain allowed His flesh to rule over him... his jealousy and pride consumed him in which he was angry at God and murdered his brother.
I am not confident that Cain was repentant, as verse 16 states: Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.
I feel to be out of the presence of someone is to no longer have fellowship.
- Without a saviour sin can consume us
- God s offers us counsel and warnings in our life it’s up to us to choose to listen and obey
- Abel by faith was righteous before the lord
- Cain was dead in faith and dead in the flesh
- How do we come before the Lord in faith or through works of the flesh?
- Cain was meant to be his brother’s keeper – as Christians we are to be our brothers and sisters keeper – to help each other through trials and in our faith.

.. God bless and I look forward to reading what everyone shares .

Good idea for a post.

On the Cain and Abel story I always found it interesting that God is not telling Cain to not get angry, but to be careful with that anger. Don't let it get out of control and then let it control you. The anger was not a sin but the action that resulted from not controlling it was. Going toward human nature to sin rather than depend on God and strive to overcome the feeling and temptation.

The timeline of Exodus through Joshua is an illustration of Romans 6-8 the biblical definition of baptism. God is shepherding Israel, many people united as one body (for all are of Jacob-Israel) even as the church is many members of the Body of Christ. And I might point out that these people were hardly willing and faithful participants and yet God's will is still accomplished through them with absolute precision. And if God, who does not change, nor has respect of persons, shows such intervention in the workings of these sinners, how can it not be so for us as well!

"For the law was never meant to bring about righteousness[1], for it is the judgment against sin[2], but rather to manifest our own judgments as opposed to God[3]. The law itself is miraculous, in that by the commandments of the law no flesh could be made righteous to establish a relationship with God[4] (For the law says an eye for an eye, but what does God owe that He should repay, or what can be done for Him to repay the things that He has done[5], therefore all things are by grace[6]!), but the relationship impossible to maintain or establish by man, was established in that the law and commandments were ever given, by the Word of God[7] (For “with men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible[8]”)! Also the commandments of the law were not meant to bring about spiritual sanctification[9], but rather instruction unto obedience and thanksgiving, for their deliverance wrought by the hand of God[10] (For God Himself redeemed Israel and sanctified them unto Himself in the Red Sea!).

For the glory of Egypt was sacrificed to deliver God’s people from the house of bondage, serving as a symbol of the cross of Jesus Christ (For it is written, “I gave Egypt for your ransom…since you were precious in my sight…I gave men for you, and people for your life![11]”). Again in the next generation, being led by Joshua to the land of their inheritance, after the former generation died off in their sins for their rebellion against God; this serves as another manifestation of the cross, for Jesus Christ suffered as a sinner in order to warn against the judgment of sin and show the sanctity of God’s Word. Together we see a marvelous depiction of the baptism of the Old Testament, wrought by God Himself and not by mans’ works of the law: Israel redeemed by the hand of God through Moses, descends through the Red Sea sanctifying them apart from Egypt (the house of bondage) and unto Himself; this generation of Israel dying in their sins along with Moses on this side of the Jordan; ascends out of the Jordan as a new creature/generation led by Joshua to seize their inheritance given by the grace of God!

Blessed be the LORD our God, rich in mercy and works beyond searching out! Forgive us our doubts, my LORD the Highest, for who can know your glory and righteousness unto perfection! Yea, who has known your thoughts and your ways[13], my King; though some have thought to know, but where are they and their testimony[14]? “I have seen the end of all perfection, my LORD, but your ways are exceedingly broad[15]!”

Therefore it is by grace that we are saved, and in thanksgiving we ought to obey. And what is the commandment and righteousness of God that we should obey? Love: surely it is pure and faithful love even as our Lord has testified [16]. For God is love[17], and there can be no sin in love, even as there is no sin in God[18]; but be very careful what you claim to do in the name of the LORD!"
