  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's been interesting that's for sure.

For one, you make your own schedual. I know for me, getting up at the crack of dawn every morning to go to school was aweful. It's a miracle I learned anything during first period. In college, you pick your own schedual, so you can avoid your down times. If you have to work, you can also take night/afternoon classes to go around your work schedual. But in all honesty, it's best not to work if you don't have to, let school be your work and focus on getting your degree.

Then there's the speed at which classes go by. My school is on the quarter system....12 weeks and it's over and it goes by soooooo fast.

That being said, do NOT get behind. It's so easy in highschool to get a little behind or let your grade slip a bit and you know you have the whole rest of the year to catch up and it's fine. This isn't the case in college. Be on top of all your work all the time. If you aren't getting something or understanding something, you can't tell yourself you'll pick up on it eventually....In highschool, sure, but in college, no. Not enough time. If there is anything you don't understand, get help ASAP. Most colleges have tutoring centers with people there who are more than willing to help you out and that service is totally free.

Another thing that's pretty cool is the maturity and seriousness. Highschool was all about play and hanging out in cliques. In college, people are there for business, they are there to learn and they are there because they want to be there. This makes it very easy to get a study group together to collaborate on work and concepts, which is awesome, especially if you learn better that way as opposed to studying along. Of course that's not to say there aren't alot of fun things to do either, clubs, activities and social events. :)

QFT. (Quoted For Truth)

To keep yourself from having to get a job during school, (if possible) save around $2k in the summer. And then carefully withdraw from that during the school year.

Also, if you know what books you'll need, get them online. People have good luck with Amazon, Ebay, and Overstock, for example. But if you can't do that, don't immediately get all the books your prof tells you. For one, in my experience, about half of the books the prof's told us to get, we never used. :| So wait a while before you jump the bandwagon. Also, another tip, if you can, split the cost of a book with a roomate or a friend, and then share the books together.

Also, unless you're just a strong-willed person, it helps to also be involved in sports to keep fit.

College for me has been pretty good. I can't complain too much. :)

If you're going to live on campus be ready for the openess!!!!!

I've learned to forget what privacy is....you have a roommate and their friends in your room, along with your own friends....then there is the whole bathroom ordeal. I'm sharing with about thirty other guys right now--communal, but if your lucky (and most of the girls at my school are) you'll get a suite and share with your roomate and a couple of suitemates. Every roommate situation is different though.

A good thing-everything is readily available. It is easy to meet and greet whoever you want at a moment's notice (ie study groups...friends to eat with...meeting up to carpool to church)

Living on campus is very fun. It has become my home away from home....but it is a complete lifestyle change!

Also the library is your friend!! Sometimes in the hustle and bustle you just need a quiet and collective moment to yourself and do some work on your own. And (depending on your school) it is the perfect place to print out all the papers you want for free!

Good luck on starting school! It really isn't as stressful as people can make it out to be! (If you choose to look at it that way!)

God bless!

College is amazing. As mentioned before, you get to choose your own schedule. If you want good grades in scool, make sure that you get a high GPA your first semester. Recovering from a low GPA will be difficult. Be very prepeared for a slew of new ideas. Your faith will be tested. You will find your self in situations where you will ask, "What do I stand for?" Stay away from parties, they are basically a waste of time. Find a church when you get to school and develop your friendships. Be sure to keep strong in the Lord because He will use you in more ways than you could ever imagine. Get ready to have the time of your life. College is amazing. Good luck.

College is exactly what you make of it.

So far, college has been pretty hard, and I thought high school was pretty much a joke. I go to a pretty small school so it's not difficult to get to know a large part of the student body.

You should get to know other Christians on campus - that definitely makes your walk much easier. Plus it's a nice way to make friends.

College can be overwhelming the first semester thats what I learned. I also learned that some people get extremley lucky with what proffs they get, so I really recommend going to myproffesorsucks.com or anyone of those sites to help you find out what kind of proffs you are really getting. Be yourself, have fun, enjoy meeting new people. Get ready for some ideas and ways of living you are not used to. There are so many difference people and cultures in college. Its has been a great experience for me so far!

a good website for books is bigwords.com not many people know about it but it will give you hits from amazon and some other big book sites as well.

when you go for college visits make sure you take some time and talk to the students on campus a bit if all the students have a complaint (or like the college I attend everyone smokes continuously ) you may want to start looking other places

be very careful with going to parties it also doesnt hurt to know the laws about drinking where ever your going I know in PA if I don't drink the police will still give me a real hard time about being in the same building as alcohol just be careful. and like someone else said they are a huge waste of time.

I've had a bad 2 semesters but hopefully where ever you end up will be better. best of luck

It has been wonderful so far. I've met great people, especially during last semester when I discovered that some Christians gathered for praying every Thursday. It has also helped me get to know a lot about the professional field, as well as giving me a lot of knowledge related to my career. :)

many aspects of college are not what they seem at first.
I live in the dorms and have a room mate and two suite mates. It took me a long time to get used to the other person in my room. She would stay on the phone til 3 in the morning. When I had to be up at 6. Things are going to take a lot of getting used to but in the end you will find that it is worth the trouble.

Besides...

You never know what adventures God has for you until you step out of the boat onto the crashing waves like peter did.
