• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Zoloft. I started taking it when I had already passed the peak of OCD in my life, but Zoloft really helped to make it more of a minor thing in my life. It's mild, with the only significant side effects I know of being troubles related to sleeping (I'm no doctor, so don't take what I say as 100% accurate).

I had therapy with an LMFT for a few months but can no longer afford it. She used mindfulness techniques and exposure. It wasn't terribly helpful, but it did help a little. She recommended an anti-anxiety med or anti-depressant to "take the edge off." If you do want to get medicated, I recommend taking it with a healthy dose of therapy as well. That way you can work the advantage of a slightly less edgy experience and make some progress psychologically as well.

Books have also helped me. The OCD Workbook is a good one, and also Can Christianity Cure Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder? by Ian Osborn, MD.

Hi Smith1,

I've recently been taking the B complex vitamin supplment "Inositol" - this can be found in 500mcg pills at GNC. It's got roughly the same chemical compound found in SSRI's, except it's natural and has no side effects. Some research has been done on it's reaction on people with OCD and it's been positive. I'm in my second week and have seen amazing results (I'm Pure O). I would look it up, if I were you! :)

Wow, thanks guys for all the info! I personally have experienced my greatest help with taking 500mg of Magnesium and 100 mg of Zinc every day. I have started taking Inositol (about 2 g per day) and am now chelating myself with cilantro, malic acid and yellow dock as well as chlorella. I also did a full-body detox. I have yet to address the candida issue, but I have changed my diet radically. I'm on a gluten-free, casein-free, processed sugar-free, soy-free diet. I am slowly removing all that stuff from my diet and my health care products. I'm also exercising. I take a B-vitamin complex with vitamin C. I am also on omegas (flaxseed oil and fish oil). I also take Vitamin D. I'm also on medications: Luvox and Risperdal. Zoloft never helped me at all that I could tell, so I'm switching to Luvox. But overall, so far, the magnesium and zinc are what has helped the most. I still worry every single day though, and I wonder what it's going to take for these thoughts to really go away.

As an addiction counsellor I help people who are compulsive on a dail basis. I believe that compulsive behaviour is one of the ways Satan keeps you in bondage. The worst thing you can do is not talk about it. Satan thrives on secrecy. Once you have begun to talk about it, which you are doing here, you are lossening the bonds and Christ is already working to free you. God Bless!
