Hello,

As I was watching the news tonight that dealt with Ariel Sharon's situation, I was wondering what you guys think about what happens to the spirit during a coma. Does the spirit remain in the body during that time? Or do you think the spirit leaves the body during that time? What sort of state, spiritually, is a person in a coma in?

Thanks!

Pam

If the person is alive to Christ, the relationship continues throughout life, death, coma, whatever: nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ!

If the person is not yet born again, maybe the Lord takes the opportunity and speaks to them while their mind and body is at rest. Maybe their spirit will begin to respond. Be a good time to pray for them to receive revelation. Just some thoughts.

God bless, love Sue

My brother was in a coma, after 2 heart attacks and a stroke. I had witnessed to him about a month previous, he had congenitive heart failure. We had lost touch for years and I hadn't seen him. Anyway, they told us that he couldn't speak, or understand, and probably didn't know we were there. When I went in, I leaned down and said "Dennis, it's me, can you hear me"? He nodded his head. (A couple of days prior, he had written on paper to his girlfriend he was scared to die, and din't know what was gonna happen to him). When he nodded, I proceeded to tell him he had no reason to be afraid, and that even in his condition, he could communicate with God, because God listens to your heart, and not just your words. I told him what to pray, and prayed for him. When my sister wanted to come in, as we were only allowed in 1 at a time, I told him I had to go. He had such a grip on my hand, I had to pull very hard to get it back.
So, yes, God can speak, as Lord is My banner said, and I have no doubt my brother heard me, and acted upon it.

I believe the spirit is still there. Hearing is the last thing to go before we pass away. My mom witnessed this as she is a nurse and has heard of stories that after people have come out of comas they were able to tell their loved ones conversations that they had heard while in a coma. Wow!

Since conciousness exists in the soul and not the spirit, the spirit much like the organs of the body is just idle.

Sue, this is what I have been praying for that Lion, Ariel Sharon. I'm praying that God use this time when Sharon's fierce intellect can't get in the way to draw him close and make him his own! My husband was in this very situation and I have CHOSEN to believe that God used his month-long coma to draw him close and bring him to salvation. I wasn't saved until afterwards, but Dave was certainly searching the 6 months before he became ill and died.

Pray for all those who are in comas. And if you know someone in a coma, don't be afraid to witness. I believe that they hear every word!

I have witbessed that too as a nurse, wsorking night shift in particular,I have prayed with or prayed for many in a semi or unconscious state and people dying. In fact I have seen someone respond to Jesus in the late stages of dementia where nothing else is getting through.
