  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi DS,

There are some who still spread the gospel in the US. I have. I have told someone who has no knowledge of God, the gospel of salvation afforded to them through the blood of God's one and only Son. I don't do it on a regular basis and I'm sure there have been opportunities available to me that I have missed.

However, if you read the book 'Share Jesus without fear' by William Fay you will also read of a police chaplain who seems to be fairly regular at sharing this truth with others. Billy Graham has spoken to thousands upon thousands here in the US, even today his public presentations are broadcast on one of my local TV networks. I was for a couple of years involved with CEF (child evangelism fellowship). On a nationwide bases they establish after school programs where the impetus of the program is to share the story of Jesus and the gospel to children, that they may know the truth, and hope that it will also be carried home to any family members that don't know of this awesome gift of their God. So, I would not readily agree with you that we have all failed God in our work that Jesus commanded of us to work to completion here in the US.

I knew a dear lady in Miami who always carried the joy of Jesus with her wherever she went and was not at all ashamed of the name of Jesus and, in fact, proclaimed it loudly and proudly to anyone who would listen. She would, in a small group of people, just begin to sing 'Jesus loves me', and then after a phrase or two, just ask someone if they knew about Jesus. If the first person shook their head yes, then she'd look to the second and ask them the same question. If there were any 'no' answers then she would quickly sidle up beside them and with a countenance of the joy of Jesus, share with them the gospel.

Now, can we do better? Oh yes, absolutely. But we don't need to establish some ministry team to go out and do this. We don't need to send missionaries into parts of the United States as we do in other countries. We just need to be bold, each one who is born again, to want to give to others the opportunity to know the joy that we know.

Many of us will go out and have a good time on Friday night with our friends and we won't stop telling everyone we know about the good time we had Friday night until the middle of the next week. Yet, if one is born again, there is nothing that compares to the joy of knowing Jesus and many are afraid or anxious about bringing up his name. Sadly, I'm afraid that the real truth for most of these is that they don't know that joy themselves. They dutifully attend worship services on Sunday morning. Dressing the kids and piling in the car to go to worship and not a one having been born again. Friend, if someone, and that included mothers and fathers, doesn't know the truth themselves, then they can't share that truth with another. It is impossible.

So, while it is always good to encourage others in this work of sharing the truth one to another, how are you doing with it?

God bless you.

I do agree with you. We should "make the most of every opportunity to give an answer for the hope that you have." 1 Peter
And I try to do this as much as possible though I'm sure as you stated there are those times that I have let it slip by.
But that is the case everywhere. Christians in other countries do the same. But I guess what I'm trying to point out is how is this nation plummeting, and I mean just that, into immorality when we have churches all over the nation? Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, etc... go door to door ministering! And they spread a false doctrine! I often look at their commitment and then look inside. How great it would be if Christians all over this nation took on such fervor and commitment to spreading the Word here at home!

History is repeating itself. In the beginning of the Christian era the main stronghold of Christianity was in the Middle East, the same area where Islam is now predominant. As Christianity lost strength there it gained power in Europe and that became the new center. Europe is now largely apostate and until recently the U. S. was the place where Christianity was strongest. Now it seems that we are following the Middle East and Europe in turning away from Christ.

Whenever one part of the world turned from Christianity God caused another part to embrace it and we can count on him to do the same thing in the future. Christians are a persecuted minority in China but they are growing in numbers. It is possible that China will someday become the center of Christianity just as America used to be.

One thing we can be sure of is that until the rapture takes place there will always be some place on earth where there are Christians who are living for Christ and spreading the gospel to other parts of the world.

Yes, all points agreed upon. However, we must also know that that is as it has been foretold to us that it will be. For the born again believer the truth is that as he plods along in faith teaching others to have that same kind of faith, the world is going to crumble down around us. It is going to get to the point that Christians will be martyred for their faith all over the world. It is going to get to the point that we are hated above all other races or nations and while we know that we know that this is how it's going to be, we are encouraged to just keep doing the works of righteousness while all of this takes place.

I believe that that is exactly why Jesus told us that the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. He knew to warn us that it was going to get tougher and tougher to live in this world and follow after him. Consider that nearly every one of the first disciples were martyred for their faith, beginning with Stephen. People hated them to death because of what they stood for and what they taught. Now consider also that that was in the very beginning of the building of the church. Think how bad it's going to be once all the warnings that Jesus and Paul wrote to us were coming, when they have come to pass.

We should actually rejoice that we still live in a land that does still allow us some freedom to speak of the truth of God, but it is closing up here also. Slowly and insidiously laws will be made; attitudes will change, that will bring persecution, disgust and hate towards those who continue to proclaim the truth of God. Look at the testimony of the Revelation of Jesus. There is going to come a time that two witnesses will stand in Jerusalem proclaiming the truth and the love and coming wrath of God and when they are killed it is written that the whole world will rejoice, even to the point of giving each other gifts as we do today on Christmas or birthdays. The 'whole world'! Yes, there will still be a few who are born again who will not so rejoice, but I believe when the Scriptures say the whole world, it certainly means the very, very great majority of its inhabitants.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

I think the United States is in a far worse condition due to the mass media culture that tremendously influences a huge part of our nation in a negative way. In a way it has become it's own religion that is hostile to the traditional Christian faith.

Many Good points for sure..

America was founded upon Biblical principles and we Americans had our chance to be a beacon on a hill for the world.

A good point was made.... We send missionaries elsewhere while we ourselves are wallowing in unrepentant sin and allowing sodomites, muslims and pagans to rule over us.

While I very much disagree with islam, the unrighteousness of America is a real bone of contention with them and that I understand.

Still, I believe that if Christians would follow Biblical instructions we could still change the course of history.

As you can see in this article: (copy and paste into a new tab)
christianpersecutioninamerica.com/2013/08/12/evolution-vs-god-life-liberty-happiness-and-people-2/

Humanists, atheists and communists evangelize far more than we do.

It is shuddering to consider how we and our children will pay the price for our omisions.

Great thread -- very needed... thanks for starting it.

Blessings,

It is the goodness of God, that brings man to repentance. Today, if you hear His voice, harden not your heart. No man can come to me, unless the Father draws him. For two days I will visit the Gentiles, and then return to build the house of David again. God has visited the Gentiles to take out a people for His Name and to provoke Israel to jealousy. Paul turned from the Jews to the Gentiles, when the Jews continued to resist Paul's message of receiving Christ for salvation. When the fullness of the Gentiles has come in the door of opportunity will open more to the Jews again and close to the Gentiles. All this considered - I can see this happening now. People in general don't want to hear and have no interest. They want to form their own conceptions of god, or to have no god at all. I will keep sharing my faith but I can see God moving more toward the Jews. To keep following the leading of the Holy Spirit could mean turning more toward witnessing to the Jewish people where for Paul it was toward the Gentiles. The original olive branch will be grafted back in, a remnant saved according to scriptures, and the end will come.

I think the biggest thing that happened to pull our society away from Christianity began in the 60's with the young people rebelling against their parent's conservative values. Today Satan has a foothold in our schools and universities that is drawing most of our youth away from conservative Christianity. The teaching of evolution, for instance "assumes" that there is no loving God who created all things. Look at what happens when Christian students try to speak up in class about God and faith, they are not only put down by other students but by the instructors also in many cases. I think the problem begins with the schools and until we can put God back in the schools or move our children to schools that teach creation and the morals of God, we will continue to go down hill. All these things have, of course, been prophesied but that doesn't mean we should give up trying to change the course of things. There are too many Christians who are allowing their kids to take in the lies at school without working very hard to counteract those beliefs. My kids are grown now but I spent a lot of time with them explaining the lies of evolution and showing them why much of the study of the earth is connected directly with The Great Flood of Noah.

I think it may be partly because as many churches there are ( particularly in the Bible belt.) People feel that they do not need to share the gospel.

Had a home church prayer service one night, some guy had a dream that he didn't understand. He said, these people were sitting in a church all spread apart and they were crying a moaning. But they were blindfolded and reaching out trying to feel if someone was there. They were wounded and injured but nobody noticed them.

This is what the Lord gave me, what I can remember of it, it's been two decades ago...

We (the church in America) are so hell bent on removing the toothpick from everybody else's eyes that we leave the 2x4 in our own.

We don't clean up our own backyards. It's pride, ego and spiritual blindness.

We make programs an idol and the ministers heal the wounded lightly.
There is no serious healing taking place because it's just feel good platitudes. The people come to church, they all sit there and they leave feeling just as bad or worse than they did when they came in.

They are not healed.
They are not delivered.
They are not fed, most of them don't even know the Milk of the Word.
They are not corrected.
They are not strengthened.

They are prey to wolves in sheep's clothing.

I have been burdened by the modern church in the US for years. We are so caught up in putting on a "show" to bring in young people that we have left our first love.... that of teaching all of God's word without being "politically correct". We have lost the holy respect that we should give God when we enter His sanctuary. We are good at celebrating our salvation but have forgotten how to worship a Holy and Righteous God. It is through worship that God moves to heal, convict, fill our hearts with peace and joy, and prepare us to minister to others. We need to quit worrying about the quantity of people we bring in and start working on the quality. I fear that too many people attending modern churches do not have a serious relationship with God. All it would take would be a little tribulation and they would fall away because they are not grounded in true faith.

Well now, you've got three issues going on in the churches today.

The first, is like you said. They've gotten more into entertainment. Church is no longer about Jesus Christ, in fact, some churches sing hymns all morning and not one of the hymns speak of Jesus, His sacrifice for our sins, His being our redeemer, His being our healer. They might actually speak of healing, or something else, but Jesus in nowhere to be found in the hymn itself and you most definitely won't find His blood!

The majority of the new music I have heard in churches in the past two decades, focus on repetition, adrenalin, feel-good hype; however, generally, not on our Lord. In fact, I've been to services where the majority of the songs were 'military' type songs, but never mentioned any of the above.

I had to actually track down an old hymn book just to get some good music. It isn't the denomination I grew up in or practice today, but it's still the same hymns.

Hymns that have served the Church since almost forever it seems, and within one generation they changed it all.

The Second issue, with Churches not teaching the Truth like they should, is that the apostasy creeps in and even if the apostasy doesn't get a foothold, those same people just aren't being fed like they should.

Luke 18:1-8 AMP
1 ALSO [Jesus] told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up).
2 He said, In a certain city there was a judge who neither reverenced and feared God nor respected or considered man.
3 And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, Protect and defend and give me justice against my adversary.
4 And for a time he would not; but later he said to himself, Though I have neither reverence or fear for God nor respect or consideration for man,
5 Yet because this widow continues to bother me, I will defend and protect and avenge her, lest she give me intolerable annoyance and wear me out by her continual coming or at the last she come and rail on me or assault me or strangle me.
6 Then the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says!
7 And will not [our just] God defend and protect and avenge His elect (His chosen ones), who cry to Him day and night? Will He defer them and delay help on their behalf?
8 I tell you, He will defend and protect and avenge them speedily. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find [persistence in] faith on the earth?

Between the feel good entertainment and programs, the lack of sound Biblical teaching, and a lack of focus on Jesus Christ I believe that these poor sheep are going to feel, if they haven't already, that they have been lied to.

The Lord lead me to a passage back in 1992. It was when I was first started seeing the signs of the apostasy spoken of in II Thessalonians 2. It was when I first started seeing the "signs of the times" on a local level.

Do you remember the year of the Tornado? 1,297 tornadoes in 1992. And then the Midwest flooded so badly, we were told that we lost all of that farmland forever. All I kept seeing was destruction after destruction. People being rescued, people losing their homes, losing their lives, whole towns destroyed. Then hurricane Andrew hit.

When I kept asking, "Lord, what is going on?" God gave me Joel chapter 1. And He gave me some insight that really disturbed me.

Joel 1:1-20 AMP
1 THE WORD of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
2 Hear this, you aged men, and give ear, all you inhabitants of the land! Has such a thing as this occurred in your days or even in the days of your fathers?
3 Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
4 What the crawling locust left, the swarming locust has eaten; and what the swarming locust left, the hopping locust has eaten; and what the hopping locust left, the stripping locust has eaten.
5 Awake, you drunkards, and weep; wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the [fresh] sweet juice [of the grape], for it is cut off and removed from your mouth.
6 For a [heathen and hostile] nation [of locusts, illustrative of a human foe] has invaded My land, mighty and without number; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has the jaw teeth of a lioness. [Rev. 9:7, 8.]
7 It has laid waste My vine [symbol of God's people] and barked and broken My fig tree; it has made them completely bare and thrown them down; their branches are made white. [Isa. 5:5, 6.]
8 Lament like a virgin [bride] girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth [who has died].
9 The meal or cereal offering and the drink offering are cut off from the house of the Lord; the priests, the Lord's ministers, mourn.
10 The field is laid waste, the ground mourns; for the grain is destroyed, the new juice [of the grape] is dried up, the oil fails.
11 Be ashamed, O you tillers of the soil; wail, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.
12 The vine is dried up and the fig tree fails; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple or quince tree, even all the trees of the field are withered, so that joy has withered and fled away from the sons of men.
13 Gird yourselves and lament, you priests; wail, you ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, you ministers of my [Joel's] God, for the cereal or meal offering and the drink offering are withheld from the house of your God.
14 Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land in the house of the Lord, your God, and cry to the Lord [in penitent pleadings].
15 Alas for the day! For the day of [the judgment of] the Lord is at hand, and as a destructive tempest from the Almighty will it come. [Zeph. 1:14-18.]
16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 The seed [grain] rots and shrivels under the clods, the garners are desolate and empty, the barns are in ruins because the grain has failed.
18 How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed and huddle together because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep suffer punishment (are forsaken and made wretched).
19 O Lord, to You will I cry, for the fire has devoured the pastures and folds of the plain and the wilderness, and flame has burned all the trees of the field.
20 Even the wild beasts of the field pant and cry to You, for the water brooks are dried up and fire has consumed the pastures and folds of the wilderness and the plain.

This the apostasy: 6 For a [heathen and hostile] nation [of locusts, illustrative of a human foe] has invaded My land, mighty and without number; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has the jaw teeth of a lioness.

The jaw teeth means to inculcate. Which means to teach. So we have a heathen and hostile nation, that teaches by repetition. That basically gives a good definition of a cult if there ever was one.

But I'm not going to go through this entire chapter, I'll leave that to those that are interested. Go look up the Hebrew on this. And while you are researching this, remember that the spiritual precedes the physical in God's Word. IE, in prophecy, the spiritual occurs, then the physical outcome.

So you've got the enemy that teaches false, they are devouring everything. And everything dries up or dies.

God tells the tillers of the soil and and the vinedressers to be ashamed. Now, if it were just ordinary bad weather, why should they be ashamed?

Joe 1:11 Be ashamed, O you tillers of the soil; wail, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.

Because this is figurative of the Pastors, the Ministers. The harvest has perished.

The result of that failure is seen in the following verses.

I've seen this verse illustrated before so when I read it I knew exactly what it was talking about.

You get flood, where the soil is saturated followed by drought.

Joel 1:17 AMP
17 The seed [grain] rots and shrivels under the clods, the garners are desolate and empty, the barns are in ruins because the grain has failed.

The result is, that the surface of the soil dries out and the ground underneath stays too wet and then the seed rots. This happens in clay soils.

Then look at the cattle and sheep! The cattle represent lay ministers, not pastors, but those within the church that directly minister to the congregation.

Then those poor sheep!

And over the past two decades, I'm still seeing this chapter played out. Unfortunately, I think we are fixing to move on past that passage, but it will probably be played out until the Lord returns.

Why did Paul go to Macedonia when there was a real need for him in Jerusalem?

Christians ought to go where God sends them, whether at home or abroad. In the past few years the Lord has been sending me to China where the need for sound Bible teaching is immense and the door is wide open.

My advice is not to judge other servants of God as to the ministry God has given them until you have fulfilled your ministry completely and hear the glad words, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter in the joy of your Master!"

I don't need to judge, God has already done that.
