  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Okay, so there were some big things that happened this week with me at my school that I wanted to share with all of you.

Firstly, I found out where I might be interning next semester. I'm either going to be interning at a domestic violence shelter, or I'll be interning at a mental health facility with adolescents. I'm really excited about this opportunity and just pray that I will be a good candidate for both internships. I still need to get my letter of referral and have my interviews first, but I'll certainly keep you all posted!

Secondly, my social life has blossomed and flourished at school! It's actually amazing how it all seemed to happen overnight. You see, I've started going to the Students for Life club at my school and I was even more social than usual at this first meeting I attended. I think I'm starting to make some friends. And not only that, but I'm planning on attending most of their meetings so that I can be a bigger instrument for good in my community. We have a lot planned for this semester, so it's gonna be good!

Finally, while at a social event that the Students for Life group was holding, I ended up running into an old friend who I met at my local Newman center a year before (Newman centers are Catholic ministries for non-Catholic colleges, I believe). We hadn't spoken in a very long while and I was glad to see him again. To be honest, I was hoping he would be there, although there was nothing to even suggest that he might be there in the first place. But, lo and behold, he ended up being there!

While we were at the social event, I caught him up to speed on where I was in my faith journey. Last time I saw him, I had told him about what faith background I came from and informed him that I was looking into Catholicism. This time around, I let him know that I was in RCIA, and you should have seen the surprise on his face. Then I informed him about all of the big changes that have happened in my life since embracing Catholicism and he was just astonished. It was so nice to tell this to someone else, and I ended up sharing my story with a few other people at the event too. But yeah, anyways, my old friend and I ended up swapping numbers so that we could keep in contact and I'm just really happy to have more friends now to associate with now.

So yeah, big things are coming my way! And I'm ready to embrace it all as it comes. :) Such is the life of a college student that's coming out of her shell for the first time in forever.

Glad to hear it!

That's right -- named after John Henry (Cardinal) Newman, author of The Idea of a University.

Sounds exciting. :)

Hope and pray that with God's help you will make an impact to those you will be serving during the internship, and that through our Lord Jesus Christ you will be a light to those around you.

May I ask what subject are you majoring in, and why you chose that subject?

Thank you ever so much!

And I'm majoring in Social Work to possibly become a therapist someday. I chose this subject because it's always been in me to help others in any way that I could, and the way that I do that best is through emotional support, redirecting others to resources that could help them, and basically trying to help facilitate empowerment within the lives of others. Social work, I discovered, is right up my alley. However, if I didn't choose this, I would have probably went into Psychology as a major since that is also a very big interest of mine. :)

You're welcome. :)

I believe that with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26: "But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."), and that it is important to seek first God's Kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.)

I will admit I find it difficult to love God with all my heart, but I believe God is able to help me love Him with all my heart (Luke 10:27 And He answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.)

I am in my last year of high school and also interested in helping people.

Oh, congratulations! I'm sure you'll do great in whatever you choose to go into!

A word of advice from me, though: Whatever you go into, be sure that you are actually interested in it and will enjoy it. If you enjoy your career, it will feel less like a chore to go to and put work into, plus you'll feel more fulfilled. And don't feel worried about having to have your entire life planned out straight out of high school either. You have time to figure all that out, usually while you're doing your general education work in college. This is coming from a United States perspective, by the way, just in case you live somewhere else and college is vastly different there for some reason?

I do live in a country other than the United States, but that does not necessarily mean that I will study college/university in that country.

I don't live in the UK, but from what I know it is more important in the UK than the USA for university freshman students to be certain about their major, since it seems in the UK it would be very difficult to change your major and not start a university degree of a different subject from the start again unless you are doing a degree with a foundation year.

Thank you for your advice.
