  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What good End Times books can you recommend?

Reading The American Prophecies byt Michael Evans right now and its a very good book as far as him telling us his thoughts on how we should worry about Israel and dump our support for the Arab community. He talks about Ishmael and Issac and that we need to side with Issac or we could be on the wrong side of end-times prophecy when it comes.

Are there any other books that some may recommend on this subject. I have already read the Left Behind series and it was too long and drawn out. I want something based on events that are happening in real life or may happen in the future. Thanks.

I've heard A Second Look at the Second Coming was good. Though I haven't yet read it myself, I plan to pick it up soon. It covers a lot of what the Early Church Fathers taught regarding tribulation, chiliasm, the Second Coming, etc.

While reading Michael Evans book he talks about a man named William Blackstone that was very instrumental in bringing the Jews back to there promised land of Israel. He believed the time was near. This was in the late 1800's I believe. Then of coarse it happened not to many decades later. Pretty cool stuff in this book. Taking his opinons like a grain of salt of course but some of the facts are pretty interesting. Anyway, I guess Blackstone wrote a book called Jesus is Coming. Talking a ton about future prophecy that has yet to be filled and that the end-times are near. Backs everything up with scripture. I'm going to see if I can find it today because it would be interesting to listen to his thoughts. Very smart man from what I have read.

Its not a mormon book is it.

Dont take offense to that comment. Just wondering.
not as far as one knows LoL (no offense taken)... Arthur C Clarke is a Sci-fi writer. Can't tell if he's Christian at all or not from his books... although with Childhoods End it would seem to indicate that he's read or knows about the bible as there are a lot of things that are similar to endtime prophecies or description of the millenial reign and an omnipresent superbeing.

Although for some Good "mormon" books, you can try Enders Game Series (albeit there are no endtime events, as far as one knows).

I started The Ezekiel Option by Joel Rosenberg yesterday. What makes it good is that it sounds like it could actually happen...I'm really enjoying it

...I think that there are some books that come before it, but I didn't know about them until an hour ago...

I bet if you asked this question in the Eschatology forum you'd get a flood of suggestions...

Aside from a few bible studies on Revelation, the only eschatological work I've read was Are We Living in the End Times? by LaHaye and Jenkins. Some of their interpretations were interesting, and others made them come across as the most paranoid people in the world; they certainly know their biblical prophecy, but so much of what they espoused just seemed like useless speculation about who/what might be represented how...

I am in the middle of a 5 book series about Christian Origins and the Question of God. It is a comprehensive assessment of the historical and theological questions surrounding the origins. I want to get through it before I move to revelations stuff. I, like you, have found a lot of info about Revelation: Four Views : A Parallel Commentary. This is why I suggest it. Also, I have heard others on this website suggest it. (btw...the book series is same amount of pages for each volume. I am finding I need to take it slowly. So it could take me awhile.)
