  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Isn't it strange how some people see following Jesus as simply opening up the New Testament then finding and following all the commandments that are applicable today. Being obedient to the end. Then there are others who see following Jesus as being guided by having had a supernatural experience and see the applicable New Testament commandments as a lighted pathway in the darkness. Not as law codes to be weighed and measured to see if you pass the Great White Throne Judgement. Perhaps denying the supernatural experience is a deceptive too of Satan. Even the most worldy minded person can be led to believe that they can sadly follow the spiritual ball & chain commandments to heaven.

isnt is strange how some people see CHRISTS words that *IF* we actually LOVE Him we WILL OBEY His commands.
Isnt it strange how other groups will try to distort that obedience caused by loving Him into some legalistic nonsense.

Perhaps it is a deception of Satan when those who profess Christ reject that law of codes (ie 'commandments') in the NT that Christ and His chosen apostles gave for His FOLLOWERS who LOVE Him to obey

Even the most godly appearing person can be led to believe that he's doing Gods will when in fact He is satans own pawn...

Yep, it is easy to get bogged down in legalism. The problem is when people see following Christ as a ball and chain, a burden reather than a privilage. I guess I see being Christ-like as something you give yourself to, not something you drag around. When you decide to follow Christ, it is the sin that is the ball and chain. My hands were around that chain so long I though it would take and act of God to let go, and it did!:amen::clap:

True.

I've noticed that this is true when we think that there is something worthwhile within us, that merits God's salvation (i.e. the idea that humans are intrinsically good). This results in the person with this belief seeing the idea of following Christ as being a burden,

However, when we are convicted of our sins, and truly realize and agree with the Bible that we are sinners and do not merit salvation, we see following Christ as one of the great privileges of life, and realize that God is Grace. We then become thankful of event eh crumbs that fall from the Master's table.

Jesus told a parable about this, the Pharisee and the sinner praying.

Dear Stinker. You had some thought-provoking replies, may I join? God made Man in His image, man was good. Until temptation, in the guise of the Serpent, became an eye-opener. Man fell and God banished us to Earth, to learn to become as God wants us to be. Instead of repenting, Adam and Eve and all who came after, moved farther and farther away from God. In time, the prophesied Messiah came, and showed us God as He really is: a loving Heavenly Father, who wants us back again. Sadly though, we had moved too far away from God, to be accepted by God`s Holy Law, and NO ONE was without sin to become a saviour for mankind. Jesus, God-Son, was the only Sacrifice without sin, or blemish whatsoever. He died that we might live, He paid the price for mankind. Jesus told us to REPENT, to exchange our selfish and wilful character, into 1) Loving God with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds. 2) Love and treat all others, as we like to be loved and treated by others. We have Jesus to help and guide us, we have years to become better and better, and we havea loving God who will forgive us every time we fall, or stray. God can see our hearts, He knows how sincerely we are trying to become as God wants us to be. Perfect sons and daughters of a perfect Father in a perfect Heaven, where we came from in the beginning. Jesus is the Way back to God. I say this humbly and with love, Stinker. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

I love the song verse that's in my siggy.

IF, we turn our eyes upon Jesus and keep our focus on Him and walk in the Law of the Spirit of Life which is in Christ Jesus THEN we should automatically walk in the works that He has ordained for us from the beginning. IF we listen to the Spirit within He will always line us up with Jesus commandments (notice.. JESUS' commandments.. not the Law of Moses) written in the gospels. THAT is what entering into His rest means.

Not as law codes to be weighed and measured to see if you pass the Great White Throne Judgement

This is a sad state of affairs and one I was in for the first fifteen years or so of my 'spiritual' experience... :)

To better explain my post, spiritual conversion does not occur naturally. It is taught by some that if one just starts obeying the applicable New Testament commandments for us today, that these people will gradually become spiritually converted to Jesus Christ. This is not true. These people will only 'get in the habit' of obeying the commandments. The Jewish leaders of Jesus' time are prime examples of 'being in the habit' of obeying commandments. Spiritual conversion is a supernatural event that results when a person has totally surrendered their will, broken free of their own carnality by being broken down. Not a 'nervous breakdown' as some opponents of Christianity claim. This occurance frightens the person's close friends and family very much because it is a sudden radical (paradigm shift) positive change in the person's thinking and behaviour that isolates them from this person.

It is argued in this thread that it is an example of one's love for Jesus Christ by their obedience to His commandments. Jesus said in Jn.14:15 that; "If you love Me you will keep My commandments". Many, many, unconverted Christian keep those of His commandments that can be humanly verified. Most churches of today consist of these kind of Christians. They go to the worship assembly every weekend, give of their money and participate to various degrees. However, without the spiritual supernatural experience of the new birth, they 'honor Jesus with their lips, but their hearts are far from Him'.

What God wants from mankind is for each of us to be kind and loving to other people. He wants us to cherish others as His children. He wants us to find ways to help other people in need. God wants us to help the poor. He wants us to be peaceful people who finds ways to bring peace to others and to the world. One way to bring peace, He says, is by doing things like forgiving others who have wronged us. He wants us to love His creation and take care of it as if it's our own. God wants mankind to live from the heart full of Love and Compassion for other human beings.

I agree, perfect righteousness is what God desires. Yep Justice will bring a smile to God's lips. So when we seek knowledge and wisdom we are truly making our heavenly Father happy because being mercyful and forgiving is what matters to Him.

Sorry, but He has more than one characteristic, thats really all I was trying to say. To single out one trait like love and ignore the rest is to look at a one dementional God. He showed Himself in His son and wants us to be like Him in all ways.
