you can only play dvd's if you hook directly to the TV set - do not go through a VCR - dvd players are very jealous and don't mix well with vcr's

I would reccommend the PS2 because you can play PS1 games, PS2 games & dvds on it & it seems to stand the test of time - the Nintendo Cube is cheaper, but I still like PS controllers & titles - Xbox is Microsoft, but still new - also our Target store dropped all Xbox & PS1 - it's strictly PS2 & Nintendo now. I do not have either yet (still PS1 player), but I have played both PS2 & Nintendo and prefer the PS2 .

Hope this helps - good luck.

I like all 3 consoles the same. GameCube for platform type games, PS2 for RPG type games, and the Xbox for FPS type games and the best online service.copleyoh, your target store doesn’t sell the Xbox console or Xbox games anymore?

There are many factors that can go into getting the game system of your choice. For one, it depends on what kind of games that you like. For RPGs, the PS2 is clearly dominant with Xenosaga, Kingdom Hearts, FFX and FFX-2, Arc the Lad, .hack series, Grandia 2, and Final Fantasy XI. GameCube has Skies of Arcadia Legends, Phantasy Star Online Episodes I and II, Lost Kingdoms 1 and 2, and the soon to come out Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. XBOX has even smaller library but all of the games rae some of the best RPGs ever wtih Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and the 2004 release Fable. PS2 wins in this category. For sports games, the XBOX and PS2 are dominant. All 3 systems have the EA Sports games but only PS2 and XBOX get them online. Microsoft though, has its own line of games that are all compatible online like NFL Fever, Top Spin, Amped, and more. XBOX comes out on top in this category. For shooters, XBOX probably is on top. While all systems get the mediocre Bond games, XBOX has obtained Halo, one of the best FPS's out there, and don't forget, Valve has said that they might bring Half-Life 2 to the XBOX. PS2 has Red Faction and a few others, but not very strong. I don't think GameCube has anything other than Bond. The PS2 is dominant in the racing games category, it's main titles being Midnight Club 2, Gran Turismo 3, four is coming out soon, and Need for Speed Underground. MC 2 is for XBOX also while GameCube is left out of this category. The Sega GT game for XBOX was okay and they are making a Sega GT Online game. GameCube does come out on top in the category of platformers and party games. Mario Party is the best one out there and Super Mario Sunshine was a great platformer. The best system for stealth action games is the PS2. With Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eaters on the way, it is dominant. It obtained Splinter Cell, a once XBOX exclusive and leads this category. GameCube surprisingly comes in second with the first Metal Gear Solid game in a remake called Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. It will contain brand new levels and great graphics. What about fighting games you say? Well, PS2 is again dominant. While all three systems have SC2, PS2 obtains the best with Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 4. XBOX next with Dead or Alive 3. Then GameCube with the okay Bloody Roar: Primal Fury. Well, now, which system has the best graphics? Definately the XBOX! Just look at Splinter Cell on the XBOX with the excellent lighting and graphics and compare it to the PS2 and GameCube version. Clearly superior. GameCube places second and PS2 third. The two winners only were superior because they came out a year after the PS2. Another big factors is the controllers. GameCube comes in first, but this is mainly preference. The GC came in first because its controllers are good for small hands. Thats not all, the third-party controllers make it great for large hands. The clencher though is that for $9.99, you can buy a cable that allows you to use PS2 controllers with the GC. Next is PS2, with its overall comfy controllers. Then XBOX, which has way to many buttons and is very big. For small handed people though, get the MicroCon, a great third-party controller. Well, in conclusion, PS2 won most of the categories but the system that you want is really just a matter of preference

PS2 is more popular right now, but there's also the small downside of having to buy your own memory card with any PS console. With a X-Box or Gamecube console you don't need to buy them, since there is an internal hard-disk.
An X-box is of better technology and cheaper. The only reason more people like PS2's is that they have more games.
For teenagers, a PS2 or X-box is preferred, as Gamecubes are for younger people.
It's up to you which one you buy, as it's just a matter of choice.

To be honest, we have all 3 systems and the Xbox has become console of choice. Great review on the consoles SniperPatrol.
I'm not trying to push just the Xbox, but I don't know anybody that owns the PS2 and the Xbox that likes the PS2 better than the Xbox. It is they like them both the same or the Xbox better.

I'd recommend getting a PS2 if you want to play alot of quality games especially if you're into RPG's (the console type/Japanese type).

I wouldn't worry about the PS3, Xbox 2 or Nintendo's next system. The earliest any of these will be released range from late 2005 to early-mid 2006; no earlier and no later.

I own the ps2 and my budy owns the xbox. They both play dvd. But the gamecube dosnt. The xbox has larger controlers (joystick) and a better sensitivity ao there analog sticks. so larger hands work better on the xbox.

But i would say the deciding factor would be that xbox has "halo" The game.

PS2 - Pros - Wide variety of quality games

Cons - Inferior Hardware

XBOX Pros - One of the most powerful systems out there, has a harddrive.

Cons - Big and clunky (both the system and the controllers), and the list of good games is this: Halo, Knight of the Old Republic, Panzer Dragoon Orta

Gamecube Pros - Very powerful. Some extremely great games from Sega and Nintendo.

Cons - the library of software as a whole is somewhat limited, can't play DVDs

I took it upon myself to see why a Target store would not carry Xbox consoles or Xbox games. The home office of Target said, "All Target stores do and will continue to carry Microsoft’s Xbox consoles and games." So I called these Target stores in your location:

Cuyahoga Falls Target449 Howe Ave , Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221-4943 USAPhone: (330) 928-0014

Rolling Acres Target2400 Romig Rd Unit 1 Space #1, Akron, OH 44322-1007 USAPhone: (330) 745-0495

Fairlawn Target2801 W Market St , Fairlawn, OH 44333-4028 USAPhone: (330) 865-9001

All 3 locations said they have Xbox consoles and games in stock in their electronics department. What location dropped the Xbox?

Well, stores shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Plus, there are many large retail stores with their goods cheaper than the goods at Target.

The X-box is soon going to overtake the PS2, as it is more powerful. More and more games are coming out on it now, whereas the PS2 is slowly becoming less popular.
The Gamecube is fun to play as almost all of it's games are unplayable on the X-box or PS2, but the downside is that games on X-box and PS2 don't come out on Gamecube, as it only makes Nintendo games.

I used to have a PS2 and I miss some of the games from it. I now have a Xbox and love it but I dont have many games. The Xbox has more potential as it is simply a PC in a box, but Microsoft are a little bit funny about anyone unlocking this postiential (ie: installing a mod chip).

I know PS2's can be modded but what I mean is the Xbox can be made to PLay MP3's, DivX movies, VCD's Region free DVD's, run Linux, even run games created by "Home bakers" (People that makes games for free themselves from scratch).

The other thing is, use your PC for gaming (depending on how good it is) but this can get expensive as buying the latest graphics card can cost more than the latest consol anyway.

But my recomendation is not to you, it is to the industry:

Just as videos had to choose a standered between VHS and Beta, just as CD is the standard for Audio....

MAKE A STANDERD FOR CONSOL GAMES AND STOP RIPPING OFF THE CONSUMER!!!!!

Love too you all
