I decided to start a new thread on this and I am hoping we can discuss this in a civil way so as not to get it closed down.
Also, a lot of new members have joined CF since then and it will also give them a chance to share their views. God bless

This is a list I comprised from the first 40 posts on the above closed thread. I will work on another 40 posts when time allows...........

I put up the "post link" for each one mentioned here. The duplicates that I could see I put in "RED"......Thanks

From what I heard, the 2 bolded above appear to be the main source of contention between Eastern Orthodoxism and Western Catholicism

Filioque - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Filioque (Ecclesiastical Latin: [filiˈɔkwe]), Latin for "and (from) the Son", is a phrase included in the form of the Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed (commonly called the Nicene Creed) used in most Western Christian churches since at least the 8th century.
It was accepted by the popes only in 1014, and is rejected by the Eastern Orthodox Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches.

Together with papal primacy, differences over this doctrine have been and remain the primary causes of schism between the Eastern Orthodox and Western churches.
The Filioque has been an ongoing source of conflict between the East and West, contributing, in part, to the East-West Schism of 1054 and proving to be an obstacle to attempts to reunify the two sides.

I think much can be related to this:
Hence there exists a close connection and communication between sacred Tradition and sacred Scripture. For both of them, flowing from the same divine wellspring, in a certain way merge into a unity and tend toward the same end.

Not sure how that is related to the topic of the thread.

You know what would be nice for just once? To come to General Theology and not see a "How can we bash Catholics today?" thread. Now that would be Christian charity at its finest.

How about a "inventions arose in Baptist churches? or Anglican? or Lutheran? or pick your denomination. That would be such a novel concept here.

Perhaps RCs should just stick to the OBOB board if they can't defend their position w/o acting defensive on the GT board.

Defend our position? I've been doing that for a while now LLOJ. That I don't have a problem with. I just thought that it would be a nice change of pace that's all. I guess since you want it, let the theological back and forth begin!!!

Hey I got one you don't have there: Sola Fide, that is a made up doctrine isn't it? Wait that isn't a Catholic doctrine is it? Oh, oh, what about Sola Scriptura, yeah that is a good one too isn't it? Oh, forgot, that isn't a Catholic one either is it? Here is one the Rapture, yeah! Whoops not Catholic either. No I got it! "Once saved always saved!" Shoot! not ours either. Man I'm going to have to work on finding that made-up Catholic Doctrine. I'm not having an easy time finding one.

The Protestants and EOC have a lot of issues with the theology of Roman Catholicism and when they post the issues they have a problem with, then you can give a rebuttal from the RC side, ok? [FWIW, the OBOB doesn't have a debate sub-board as does the TAW board.]

At last! A Catholic who is willing to claim his Church as having given birth to its Reformed siblings.

Did I say I was Catholic? Catholicism didn't 'birth' protestantism. Protestantism came from Catholicism, in the same way that all other heresies came from Catholicism via changing of the faith.

Protestantism is catholicism jr .

Eastern Orthodox seems closer to the original teachings . but after the schism .. or as the scriptures call it "the rebellion" the original is not visible in an organized fashion . Pope is to the Kings era of israel's history like the reformation is to the dividing of the kingdom between Jeroboam and Rehoboam .. that too was about "work"

That is also the SDA view :)

harlot of Babylon and her harlot daughters

Here is the thing...

True repentance means turning away from sin. Sin is the transgression of the law.

The Sunday church goers say the commandments don't matter. While they would not condone murder, theft, adultery...somehow the 4th of the 10 commandments is no longer binding.

The change from 7th day Sabbath to Sunday (1st day) as the day of worship has no scriptural authority. The Roman Catholic Church openly admits it. And many reformation pioneers admitted it. They (Catholic church) held it as the proof of that the church traditions are above the Bible. And RCC challenges the protestants who claim to be Sola Scritura to keep the 7th day Sabbath holy. See Rome's challenge:

ROME'S CHALLENGE - WHY DO PROTESTANTS KEEP SUNDAY?

How can the protestants claim to be saved by the grace of God yet blatantly ignore one of God's eternal commandments?

The Roman Catholic Church claims to be the Mother Church of all protestant churches and rightfully so. The Council of Trent condemned the protestant reformation on the grounds of protestants contradicting themselves by choosing to keep sunday

Col:2:14 is talking about the Old Covenant that the Jews had to follow, which was against them and contrary to them. When Jesus died on the cross, He took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross. This is why everyone should follow the New Covenant, and not the old.

Galations 3:7 "Therefore know that only those who r of faith r sons of Abraham."

Hebrews 7:18-19 "For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness. For the law made nothing perfect...."

Hebrews 8:13 "...a new covenant, He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away."

Have you somehow missed the long-running thread on Protestant errors and inventions? Your fellows have been having a great time ridiculing and misrepresenting us over there. You're free to ask them to show the charity you're promoting here, of course.
