I don't believe that you can go to hell for being a Mormon. I believe that many Mormons are born-again and therefore will be in heaven. But they are obviously going against what the LDS teaches if they remain in the church.

The simplest way to answer this is to show you what the Bible says about how to be saved from Hell:

If you believe in your heart that God raised Christ from the dead, and confess Him as Lord, you are not going to hell!
God wants all to be saved - only turning away from Christ's sacrifice can condemn you.
Everything else is insignificant in the light of that!

Whether or not you are going to hell or not is not for us to judge. Only God can do that. If you can confess that Jesus rose from the dead and you strive to understand and obey his commandments (with God's help), then you are probably on the right track.

However, as a former Mormon I will add that the central idea that Jesus was the first creation of God, rather than God himself, was not some new idea hidden for 1900 years until discovered by Joseph Smith in New York. Contrary to what Joesph Smith said, this knowledge was not hidden by an apostate Church. Rather is was simply discredited and discarded.

I won't go into detail about their teachings except to say they do teach contrary to the bible.

But to answer your question, all sin leads to death and eternal punishment in Hell. The greatest of these sins is to reject The Holy Spirit who tries to lead us to faith in Jeus as our Savior. All sins can be forgiven but this, because by holding on to this sin we are rejecting our only way to faith and salvation.

These verses show that, but its hard teaching for us to understand.

Mt 12:31 And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Mt 12:32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

Because hell {Hebrew word sheol & Greek word hades} that which Christendom refers to as eternal torment, is not a place, but rather “it is the state or the reign of being in the grave”. I am not talking about the grave itself, which is the Greek word (qeber) but the Bible defines hell {sheol, hades} as; “the state of being when one dies,” it’s a continuing state until the resurrection.”

As for salvation and spending eternity with God, I, like the rest of the saints on this thread, find no place in the Bible, which connects the trinity with salvation. Aiki has listed numerous scripture dealing with salvation which in essence state that if you have {at any point in your life} confessed Jesus as your Lord and Savior {repented and made Him lord in your life} and believe God raised Him from the dead, you shall {absolutely} be saved. As I Peter 1:23 states you are born again of incorruptible seed ………and seed is seed, you can’t loose it.

These things you listed is not of a salvatory nature. BUT, there is NO debating among true Christian's WHO Jesus is and His authority to judge all.

JOHN 5:22 “The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son.”

As I understand it, we are worthy of hell for the slightest defect in our persons whatsoever, but we are committed to hell for the unique sin of unbelief. The solution for the first problem is in the perfect life and substitutionary suffering death of Christ in our place, while the the sole solution for the second problem of the supreme foolishness of unbelief is in the wonderful work of simple faith. "Faith" locks us out of hell and opens up heaven for us, and for this reason God finds the special sin of unbelief in Christ's salvation something of infinite, surpreme wickedness which merits that awful fate, but it need not be and that is hope for us indeed.

OK, bloodfire, for the umpteenth time:

You don't go to Hell for being a Mormon. You don't go to Hell for denying the Biblical teaching of the Trinity.
You don't go to Hell for believing in the wrong Hell. You don't go to Hell for taking the Bible metaphorically. You don't go to Hell for believing that God has a physical body.

People go to Hell because they have transgressed God's laws and are guilty in God's courtroom and deserving of punishment.

Mormon doctrine may be wrong, but wrong doctine doesn't, in itself, send one to hell. However, if it prevents one from accepting Christ as Lord one has a problem.

So many churches think so many different subjects in Christianity are essential....when they are not. They make these things the line in the sand between each other when they should not.

It would be best to concentrate on what God says in His word instead of what people say. God is merciful and His mercies are new every day. How can an honest seeking soul go to hell or anyplace bad with the opportunity of grace God gives???
God knows how to communicate. Learn what parts are symbolic and what is literal in scripture. Scripture interprets scripture very nicely to those who dig in and find the keys, but if a person wants to say something they want said; well, it may take some time for twisting the truth, but it can be done. Again, we get back to the "honest seeking soul". There really are none without the change only God can provide through His spiritual rebirth of being born again. That comes when a person comes to an end of "self" and hits their knees in complete submission to God, asking in prayer for what He has to offer. When we realize that nothing good is in ourselves other than what God can put there, then we know the truth. We give ourselves over to His will and Spirit. All things become new and we slowly but surely see the changes in our lives that God gives us a grace to see happen.

It seems to me that you kind of flip what happens, the natural state is going to hell. People are saved through faith in the Gospel, by God's grace, totally for Christ's sake and by his merit.

We are told in places that the road to salvation is a narrow path, it is impossible for us to really know your status with God. However, God spends a lot of time warning us of false prophets and talks about how they will lead people astray and there's really no reasonable conclusion about Joseph Smith other than he was a false prophet.

Joseph Smith made a lot of amazing claims. I guess first was the whole angel Moroni and golden tablets thing. Which of course he claimed to have translated into the Book of Mormon. But even if you read his accounts, he didn't translate them. He claims to have sat with his hat over his face and a divining stone on his forehead and he could just see the text scroll in front of him like on parchement. I don't know why he bothered with the angel or the golden books story at all. Probably he started to tell one story and switched part way through.

So he ended up with this whole story, and it had things like this big civilization in America and everything, and well, nothing backs it up unless you will just accept anything. He spun a story.

Anyway, what he clamed to do was doing was actually just like the superstitious water witching that his family was already involved in before. Do you see any prophet in the bible that used witching stones on their forehead to prophesy?

I would think the so called scroll of Abraham would really seal it. Joseph Smith again claimed to do a translation, and I guess it could have fooled people at the time, because basically we couldnt' read Egyptian hieroglyphics, but now we can, and what the scroll says, what Joseph Smith said it says aren't even close. Clearly and conclusively a fabricated story on his part, a lie.

So when you claim to be a Mormon, a follower of someone who is clearly and conclusively a false prophet, we, as Christians are of course concerned for you soul, because there is only one Gospel and maybe you believe the true Gospel and are saved, but if you believe the fictitious creation of Joseph Smith, then that certainly appears to be a different gospel than the gospel of Jesus.

I hope that helps you understand why Christians would tell you you aren't saved. We really don't know that, just if someone actually puts their faith in a false gospel that that person wouldn't be saved.
