Significant differences + proximity = conflict. The fact is that people are generally more comfortable around other people who are similar to them in most respects. This is true pretty much all across the world. I don't think we have a right to be surprised by this anymore.

That's pretty much it. Most people are insecure and also have not studied out in any real sense, why they believe as they do. So, when threatened they become dogmatic and defensive because they don't know where else to turn.

I'm not going to watch a 30 minute video. OP should be more than copy based. Offer a summary of the link. Throw out an opinion or 2.

What I saw of the vid header was to ask a question, "IS religious tolerance on the rise.?" Good question. What is the answer?

I think the answer is best seen when considering secular humanism of our government THE religiously intolerant institution of our time. Don't want to vaccinate your kids? Don't want to send your kids to government run schools? Don't think marriage applies to anyone but a man and a woman? Woah be onto you!

Don't want to vaccinate your kids?
I understand this concern because not vaccinating your children can effect other people besides you and your children. Most Christians have their children vaccinated.
Don't think marriage applies to anyone but a man and a woman?
I don't understand why non-Christians should care what we think about marriage now that they have the legal right to a legal state marriage. We shouldn't have to condone it anymore than they need to condone our beliefs.
Don't want to send your kids to government run schools?
Why should they care where we send our kids to school? We pay for it ourselves and still pay taxes that support the public school system.

LOL Not if vaccines work.

Seriously? Never read 1984? Are you truly unaware of the oppressive nature of political correctness, which suppresses speech? Merely stating opposition to gay marriage ensures all manner of vitriol and retribution. See cake baker.

Why should they care where we send our kids to school?

Well, the alternative I had in mind was home schooling. Are you truly unaware of the government opposition to home schooling? In California, they want to make it prima facia evidence that you should have your parental rights taken.

They care because schools lose ~$7K for each student who is not enrolled. In NY, I read yesterday that it is ~$20K.

Not having those kids in school means they don't have the expenses of those kids. They don't have to build larger schools, hire more teachers, buy more books, buy more classroom materials, etc.
Smaller classes are beneficial to the students in the public schools.

That's not telling me why they care what we think about their martial status. Oh yeah, there has been a few confrontations like the baker, but the laws are on their side and in general most people are abiding by those laws.
LOL Not if vaccines work.
I don't understand your response.

Irrelevant to everything we are talking about. Even though what you say is logical, power has its own logic.

For instance, I read some time ago that many school districts spend 2x as much money on bureaucrats as they do on teachers.

Disagreement, even strident disagreement, is not suppression.

See cake baker.

Disregarding public accommodation laws is not speech.

Really? You do not grasp what 1984 is about. The secular humanists do not want opposition to their religion. That is why they care what we think. Read 1984 and you will understand.

I don't understand your response.

How can vaccines be a danger to others IF they work and EVERYONE ELSE gets them?

I didn't listen to the 29+ minute program. Religious intolerance, like racial and ethnic prejudice, and ultra-nationalism all have their roots in tribalism. Which unfortunately, is human nature. At a very basic level, our brains our wired to be suspicious and wary of those different from ourselves. It's part of the evolutionary baggage we've inherited from our hominin ancestors who lived in smallish clans and tribes. When you combine a tribalistic instinct with resentment due to perceived socio-politico-economic inequality, the mixture explodes.

Willful ignorance. I've pointed you to the door of enlightenment. It's your choice not to walk through it.

How can this be IF vaccines work?

LOL Not if vaccines work.

So no reason for traffic laws if seatbelts work!

Vaccines work, but are not 100% effective. They give high to extremely high resistance, not magic immunity. Also the very young cannot be vaccinated, especially for whooping cough which is most apt to be fatal in the very young. Similarly for the very old. Why do you hate babies and grandma?

Appeal to Diversion. The issue is parental rights in making health care choices, like vaccines, for the children. The issue is NOT vaccines or their effectiveness. The idea of limited government came from Jesus. And secular humanists want no dissent.

“Well, then,” Jesus said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” His reply completely amazed them
