  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the Old Testament of the Bible (when I do read it) it says in different Scriptures that God made a covenant of some kind.

I have no idea what the word "covenant" means. Never have.

Please explain.

In the Old Testament of the Bible (when I do read it) it says in different Scriptures that God made a covenant of some kind.

Please explain.
Essentially, a covenant is like a treaty in that both parties agree to have a friendly relationship with each other.

There are a total of 7 different covenants in the OT scriptures between God and men (there are other covenants between people). Covenant is based on "co-vene" which means going together. There's a verse in Amos that says "how can two walk together unless they agree?" So "covenant" is a treaty, or agreement, between parties, people, or groups.

The important one, for us, is the New Covenant, in which God made promises (like deliverance from sin, eternal life, and such), and we enter that covenant by agreeing with what God says about us and about the nature of our relationship with Him. The first step in that agreement is acknowledging that we are sinners, and that Jesus is our Lord and Savior who redeems us from our wicked ways and sets us on a new path of life.
