1 Kings 3:5-6a "At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you" Solomon answered...."

We can read about Solomon's answer from then on out. Most of us know that it was for wisdom (to make a long story short.) But I was curious one day... what would I ask for?? These are the guidlines, one request.. no more. What do you ask?

I personally am torn... would I ask for wisdom like Solomon? Or to be able to fellowship with the Lord in the same manner which Jesus Christ did, to the same degree? I lean towards the second. But it's something to think about. What do you value that high enough in this world, that if God Almighty said you could have one thing, what would it be? How are your priorities set up? What do you search out for? What do you ask, seek, and knock for? Would these things make God proud of your decisions? Would Jesus consider it an honorable request? and.... what would you do if you recieved it?? Just some thoughts runnin through my mind. Think, ask God, and learn. Have a great day!

When speaking of Christ you have to keep in mind the hypostatic union which does not apply to us. Since we are, therefore, all human then we must take our lead from Solomon who also was all human. I should think we would ask for the wisdom necessary to be the maximum efficient servant we could be.

Thanks for putting forth this question. You should get some awesome replies to it.

Yes it is something to think about - I believe I need to be in the presents of God, worshiping in spirit and in truth. If I look into my past I see that the one think I keep on knocking and asking for is to see God face to face. I know that no flesh will be able to stand and therefore I keep on dying to self. This is the one thing I desire the most

Yes great thought. Yes I agree wisdom Gerry. Now you have me thinking.

Just went through my mind about the root words.and deeper meaning.
Just wondering.

Wis-dom
could it be broken up to be from two words eg: the domain of the wise.
king-dom......... domain of the king.
Also the hebrew meaning of wisdom.
I will have to have a study.

I think wisdom is important to ask for (James also says we should ask for wisdom). One thing to remember though. Solomon asked for wisdom and got wisdom, but still went astray a good part of his life. If the Lord would grant me wisdom, I must also have a Love for him, and and to use this wisdom in accordance of His perfect will not my own.
