  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What do you use to kill weeds?

Wooden planks. Couple of weeks, weeds dead. And Round-Up. I've gotten to resorting to measures like that because nothing can really help our yard look better at this point, and this definitely doesn't/can't make it look worse.

Another suggestion I've seen was to use cinder blocks and wet newspaper...the existing ones die from not getting any light (which is what the planks do, but the cinder blocks/newspaper allows more precise control), and the wet newspaper prompts the seeds to grow just enough to die when they pop out of the soil, as well as helping with decomp. Don't know how well this works, though.

That was the problem here, too...but even the weeds were brown and pretty much dead from the freezes/prolonged cold this past winter and the hot, dry conditions we've been getting a lot during Spring and Summer these last few years. I just mowed over them with the bag on (after spraying Round-Up on practically the whole yard) and the amount of green grass underneath it was pathetic. It looks like a bunch of randomly-scattered plugs amidst a whole lot of brown. The grass was mostly killed by the frost and heat, too. Hopefully the weed killer is strong enough that they won't actually grow back, but I'm not counting on it with the kind of situation the yard is in.

It's really just three or four planks, each about 4 feet by 5 feet (or 3 feet by 5), and it's not really necessary for them to be wooden, or even be planks - they just have to be some kind of covering that prevents light from getting in; a tarp would do just as well, but you might have to worry about it dry-rotting. I just position them over some of the worst spots and let them sit there for a couple weeks before moving them to another spot. It'll kill everything underneath it, grass and weeds alike (and said weeds/grass will additionally start to decompose, making it start to look more like a barren spot of soil than just brown plant material). To continue this on the whole yard will take quite a while. To get the grass back, the solution would be to use grass seed or sod (although with how long it might take to finish, the grass may start to come back on its own, hopefully without weeds).

I BURN THEM! Muahahah! :ebil:

I have a..... thingy. It looks like a walking stick, with a gas canister under the handle. You flick a little switch on it and BWOOMF, flames come out the end, then you use it to burn the weeds to a crisp! It's quite fun, actually.

this
I just use my bare hands (with gloves depending on the weed, also a trowel if the roots are being awkward)

Where I live the ground is really hard though so often I have to use rakes and hoes to dig them up.
