2 Corinthians 6:27 says, "Therefore 'Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.' "

Just curious how does not cursing make us separate from the world. I thought that to be separate, or sanctified, is to become more and more holy each day by allowing God to work through you(i.e. reading the Bible, staying pure, trusting fully in God etc.). I really don't think cursing is that big of a deal. Sometimes its the only word strong enough to express an opinion or emotion. However, you will never see swearing in CCM because the corprate powers won't allow it...

Edit: Also that portion of the verse is from the OT, a completely different dispensation than now. Not that its truth is not still potent but it means different things now. The Jews were to stay away from unclean nations, but now after Peter had the vision in Acts of being able to eat anything, the verse more pertains to the heart in my opinion. And I don't think that swearing, unless done over excessively, is damaging one's heart, providing they are filling it with the Lord.

"My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."

My views have changed on the topic recently, I don't appreciate it... but it has nothing to do with us or our salvation. And I think it has more to do with the strength in your walk with Christ. It is also a touchy thing, when meant to be used with anger towards someone, that is wrong. But not any worse than using pretty words to tell someone the same thing. It shouldn't be used in church, and we shouldn't use it around people who would be offended by such (as Paul meant when saying he refrains from certain activities around people as to not weaken their faith), but in a song that is heartfelt longing, used in the right manner and emotional approach, or used in humor around friends... it doens't offend me, nor do I believe it is an issue with God (even jesus used "Brood of vipers").

I'm not concerned about slipping up. I don't generally swear, every once in a while I'll use "hell" or something which I hardly count as profanity. I'm curious as how something can be filthy language when its more a cultural thing which words are considered dirty...any usage of harsh words against anyone is surely filthy communication, but I'm not so sure about others circumstances.

It has no place in Christian music. If I didn't care about language, I wouldn't hunt up Christian bands in the first place. The whole point of listening to Christian music is to honor God by breaking the cycle of "garbage in, garbage out."

If it's pertinent verses you people want, look up Ephesians 5:3-4. "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving."

It has no place in Christian music....Christian music and artists are suppose to put up a Godly presense...someone yelling the F word on stage isn't exactly showing God in his actions.

Also - Would you really want to associate that word with the most holy, most perfect God of the universe?

Absolutely unexeptable. I hate it when Christian bands us profanity. It is sort of proving a point isn't it? Most people view christians to be lukewarm. We don't need any more support of that view. since cursing is technically taking the Lord's name in vain, I think you're right. but many of the words used today were not cuss words back then, so i think the argument is partially void.

and cussing is in NO way a 'measure' for the maturity of your salvation. that's simply ridiculous. as for bands doing it in their songs.....depends. i've heard it done when it was to make a point in the song (Mike Knott is a good example), so i don't have a problem with it necessarily. mind you, i don't condone it, either, but i think there are bigger fish to fry than what WE get uncomfortable with in our bubbles. as for the Lost Dogs guys, i have met them on many an occasion, and i can tell you first hand that they have a more genuine and sincere faith than the majority of people who fill church pews on sunday mornings.
