What do you feel about new entertainment technology? I can't afford an HDTV but even if I could I wouldn't want one because they are so wide that the picture has no height. In order for the picture to have height and everything look real short you have to get a big screen tv and some of us prefer just a small tv. I understand why the government is getting rid of traditional broadcast but sooner or later to watch tv I'll have to get an HDTV because the government in the next few years will no longer allow traditional tv broadcasts. BTW, I keep hearing it advertised as "new technology," but in reality HDTV is 1970's technology it's just new to American audiences.
I prefer dvds over tapes but the main reason I decided to post this is that there are rumors that vcrs will no longer be sold in the next few months. From what I understand that's just a rumor and the only thing that's going to happen is movies will no longer be released in vhs format by the end of 2005. I think vcrs have a limited life span now but dvd recorders are expensive and I don't think you can record over something on dvds.
In the past vcrs had three different speeds: sp, lp, ep. New vcrs upset me because I can't find any that record in long play (lp) and that's the speed I prefer to record in.
There is also a moral aspect to this. I think old shows will still be broadcast but I'm concerned how much they will be shown on tv. TV has increasingly become more and more immoral so the fact there are so many old shows on tv has given us ability to watch decent shows. Once only HDTV is broadcast though many stations may decide they only want to broadcast shows that fill up the entire screen and not older shows. That will make the wholesome shows even more rare than they are now.
Because of technology that allows people to record shows without recording the commercials this fall most of the ads will come in the form of product placement and conversations about products than commercials in the commercial breaks. Product placement has been in movies since before tv existed and it's not new to tv (I remember as a kid seeing it done on Alf which was back in the 80's), but a majority of the ads seems extreme.
Last week I was watching NBC and they were showing ads for an ad they apparently broadcast last Monday night. This shows how bad shows on NBC are now-watch our show because you'll like the ad in the commercial break! Ads to advertise ads-that's a scary thought for me.
Just some mindless random thoughts of mine.
