I've heard that the next bill Brown is introducing is to change the Union Jack into a pair of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. There is going to be a battle between the tabs between whose it should be.
I'm going for Michelle Marsh.

woah; that thing is still readable? =P
Well, not any more since Gordon Brown has wiped his backside with it.
Do you know how Lib Dem MPs voted out of interest? Crazy these days, that the conservatives seem to be more on the left and more liberal now, than "new" labour (just!). It was a master stroke by Blair and Brown back in the 90s, turn labour into the conservatives, keep the socialist voters and gain the youngsters and the undecided voters. Just goes to show, far too many people support their party like they would their football team. Apparently even BNP were against the 42 day detention. It says something when your government have turned even more authoritarian than BNP on an issue like this!
As far as I know, the Liberal Democrats all voted against. And that is part of the reason that I believe the Lib Dems are the true Left. New "Labour" have totally abandoned their principles.
I consider myself a Labour voter by heart but recently I think they've abadoned me.

If you're a socialist Labour abandoned you in 1997. Before Blair (a tory in socialist clothing) turned up on the scene, the voters had a true choice between left and right. Realistically, we don't have a choice now, thanks to Blair. I have no idea, even to this day, why he decide to join the labour party. The labour party in the Neil Kinnock days, would have NEVER brought in Uni Fees.
As it happens, I'm not in favour of left politics (it's destructive for the economy), but I am in favour of more liberal laws.
Bit different. More to do with bent police than any particular changes in the law (as far as I'm aware)
What's to say that it doesn't happen again?
Yes you can trust the police and government.
But it really doesn't because it only fuels the the terrorists' hatred.42 days sounds fine to me if it keeps everyone safer.
Really? Apart from all the examples of where the police and government have failed to be worthy of our trust, why would we even have checks and balances, or democracy and the rules of law for that matter if the people in charge are so trustworthy?
But it really doesn't because it only fuels the the terrorists' hatred.
And you are safer if every convicted criminal is never released, but killed on conviction (so they don't even have a chance of escaping). If it keeps me safe from terrorists, I'm all for it. Only the guilty mis-trust the police....
Maybe you just haven't been betrayed by authority before (that you know of).For example, the city I live in, there were 360 complaints made against the police by Citizens.
Yet, the police had over 350,000 contacts with members of the public. 350,000 contacts and only 360 complaints....sounds like a fantastic satisfaction rate to me.
So, you can trust the police, ...I don't trust the people who are afraid of the government or the police....who I must remind you are simply our neighbours and community members who happen to enforce the Nations laws for a living.
So, if your scared of your neighbours and community members, it's about time that you look in the mirror...maybe we should be afraid of you!?
