What do you think about this?

I've got Karl Keating's book, "What Catholics Really Believe," and I'm wondering if we could open pro-Catholic information threads in the Interfaith Discussion, to TEACH, to educate as to what Catholics really believe. I think a pro-active approach would enable us to guide the thread better than some of the query threads opened by our Protestant brethren, which quickly degrade into horsewhippings.

Comments, suggestions, derogatory remarks??

Great idea VOW, I think we should all take a topic we're most comfortable with. For example; Church history isn't my strong point. The Sacraments, Mary and the Communion of the Saints seem to be my cup of apologetic tea.

Sweet Lady, you are by no means ignorant!

My suggested idea is to present Catholic beliefs, Catholic teachings, in order to inform our Protestant brethren in order to clear up the many misconceptions. Questions would be welcomed and encouraged, in the spirit of learning.

I have been pleased to see the catholics here know why they do things. So many times I have asked a catholic freind a question and they just shrug and say I don t know we just do. If you are going to say you believe something know why.

Absolutely! There are a lot of "cradle Catholics" from my generation (my husband is one) who must have been asleep during their catechist classes. Too many times, they were given a series of prayers to memorize, pat answers to questions, and then POOF, they received their First Communion or were Confirmed.

There's a movement now in the American Catholic Church to educate that generation. And the youth of today are fortunate to be immersed in their faith through the Church with the marvelous Youth Ministers and the incredibly moving programs. My daughter was Confirmed two years ago, and the entire program was a life-changing event for her. I applaud the dedication of the Youth Ministry, because these loving, hard-working people literally set the young kids on FIRE with the Holy Spirit. My son is in the Confirmation program now, his first year. I'm waiting to see the transformation in him!

An old wives' tale says the converts know more about the Catholic faith than the ones born into it. For the most part, that's got a lot of truth in it. A convert is a seeker, someone who hungered for answers and found them in the Church. It might surprise you to learn that you just can't knock on the door to the rectory and tell a Catholic priest, "Hey, I wanna be a Catholic: baptize me!" I've told people that I had to CONVINCE the priest who gave me instructions that I really wanted to be a Catholic. It's a big decision, a major life choice.

I have a friend who is a converted catholic and i drive her crazy with my questions I am trying to get her to come here but no luck . She is a young 60
